Let me know how you like 'em. I'd been tossing around the idea of picking myself up a set.

Re: another UPS visit!

That's cool...I'm not in a hurry. I've just got to start thinking about that kindof stuff now that Waldo's running a Paxton on his '94 GT. I think I'll probably need a set of those, 3000rpm or so on the converter, and maybe a set of 3.73's to stay competitive. That might not be enough, but it should get me in the neighborhood, anyway.

Re: another UPS visit!

I've got a set of Nitto DR's on a street car and love them. I'm sure you will too. From my experience, they're nowhere near as bad as everyone makes them out to be in the rain. So far the tread seems to be holding up well too. I think I've got about 10k miles on them already, and they still have a way to go. Only bad thing I can say about them is that I wish Nitto's idea of a 275 was a little wider... The Yokohama's I did have were nearly an inch wider...

Still, you can't beat being able to go full throttle in 2nd gear without ending up facing the other direction. I know as soon as these run out, I'll be buying another set.

See, I keep telling my roommate that dr's are not that bad for everyday driving but he won't listen. He needs something in his car.

Re: another UPS visit!

Yeah, it will be so nice to be able to launch with my everyday tires! if I get 15K miles with them I'll be happy, that will mean about a set per year

I set them next to the wheels and they are probably 1/4 to 1/2" wider then the rims.

I only drive on wet roads if I'm caught in the rain by mistake.

If that's the case I'd definitely run DR's then. I have to drive mine everyday, so I've driven it in storms where I could barely see out of the windshield and they still did just fine. You may even want to look into the BFG's, I had a set of those for a while as well. They hook a LOT better. But... they have a very soft compound and won't last nearly as long as the Nitto's.

To kinda give you an idea of how much better they hook, when I had the BFG's they were on a 15x7 wheel (235/60/15's I think). At the time, I also had 4.10 gears. They would dead hook in 1st gear on the street, with no dropping PSI, heating them or anything just by slipping the clutch off idle.

On the other hand, the Nitto's I have are 275/40/17 on a 9" wide wheel and now have 3.73s. On the street (once again, w/ no prep), I can still blow the tires off in 1st. 2nd hooks pretty well though, unless I'm just really trying to spin them.

Unfortunately, I changed to 5-lug and bigger wheels before I could see how long they would have lasted. But given how soft they were, I wouldn't think any more than around 8k, driven conservatively.

the extra sidewall would have helped your BFG's hook as well. Low profile tires don't flex as much so they will spin a bit easier

Re: another UPS visit!

I run DRs on my car, and they are fine. No problems at all. Granted, they do suck real bad if you are caught in a heavy rain...but maybe that's because I am running 315s out back which seemed to serve as a great base for hydroplaning when I was caught in a down poor at 80 mph.

None the less, for day to day driving, and normal rain, they are fine. They don't give a lot of traction on the cold roads, but they do well once warmed up.

One thing about the Nittos though, as you have seen, they do tend to run a bit narrower than other brands the same size. This is easily fixed by order 285s instead of 275s....or in my case 315s...which I am running on the stock 9" rim and they fit just fine.

So...in summary....drag radials for teh win
