1/4 scoops mock up

well they came in saturday morning. i worked on them all of saturday and some of sunday, getting them all nice and dandy. had to add a bit of material, even after swapping the weather stripping and foam spacers over, they still sat 1/4" lower than the upper window louver trim.

it goes in for paint saturday. theyre painting every kit piece inside and out, the body seperate, so when you get under the car, the whole kit is silver, just like it would be if it came that way. theyre installing everything too. only thing ill be putting back on is the grilles.

pics are decent due to using the SLVR, the digital had no batts.

and yeah, it has side exhaust ready for the skirts and tips to be welded. the pipes come right to the side where the tips will be and they have a turndown on them for now. after its painted, the guy said its a freebie to weld the tips in.

and blind spot is correct. itll be like driving a convertible again, though this time in the summer time that blind spot will still be there. oh well, a small sacrafice, though i doubt ill be parking anywhere but up front anywhere i go.

the only thing I dont like abou those is the right angle they make where they meet the above door peice, just looks odd.

youre talking about that inside lip under the upper trim where theres that little gap? thats all me, i took off a wee bit more than needed, the DA sander, once you start, it just digs in and doesnt want to let up. if i have time tomorrow maybe ill fill it in.

Re: 1/4 scoops mock up

the painted peice that goes above the window's on your car it goes all the way down by the windshield as well. When it meets those panels it creates a 90 degree angle, if you look at the 05+ its a slightly rounded line right there. The eyes catch that angle, not much you can do about it though.

ah i see what youre talking about now. yeah, nothing i could even do about it unless i were to take that whole trim piece off and mold both together and add a curve where they both join. i bet that trim piece is a pita to remove though.

the problem would be if you rounded it the window would hit it when you opened the door.

doesnt really matter now, i probably wont be making it to paint saturday, not after my gigantic brake fiasco tonight. if i cant do it, ill have to tow it to sears, and spend the day at the mall, and hopefully get it to paint monday after work.

Re: 1/4 scoops mock up

ok well i made the paint deadline after all.

theyre painting the car and kit seperately. theyre gonna prep then primer, then theyre gonna lay the stripes and call me so i can make sure the spacing and thickness is correct. then after those are baked in, theyre gonna paint the rest of the car. then after thats baked in, theyre gonna lay a final layer of clear over the whole shibbang, theyre only gonna charge 300 to do the layer of clear, and he said even though theres clear in the paints already, a final layer would add so much more depth, help seal the layers together, and keep the car that much shiny for twice as long.

ive given them everything. hes gonna look into wiring the fogs and mounting them for me(the roush fogs in the fascia), he said they usually dont do wiring, but if its a simple cut and splice(like i believe it is) hell do it. which is good, cause once that fascia is in, those are gonna be a pita. theyre also going to mount the upper and lower billet grilles.

he said that without the added clear layer, it would be ready saturday(exactly 1 week from today), and with the clear, to add another day for it to bake. so were looking at monday the 17th, tuesday at the latest.

its gonna be a long week with no car...........

I don't see how it's possible to mount the foglights with the bumper on the car...it took me about 15 minutes to do it with the bumper sitting on the ground. As far as the wiring, you have to take the factory connector off the end and attach the roush connector. It's a bit of a headache, but not too bad once you figure it out.

Re: 1/4 scoops mock up

wiring the fogs is really easy, buy a relay and route the wires from the driver side near the battery. The turn on wire can be ran from the amber parking light bulb and so forth... you dont need switch to turn them off cuz they wont ever be off anyway probably, but if you do that is also easy.

umm i was going to use the roush fogs in place of the stockers, should be basically plug and play, i believe theres 3 wires in the harness, im not sure, as i took a glance, and threw it back in the box.

though the center auxilary fogs ill make my own wiring for them, as i want them to be able to come on seperate from the roush fogs, that way i can either run the headlights and roush fogs, the headlights and the auxilaries, or the headlights, roush fogs and auxilaries all at once. no big deal, ive done so much wiring when it comes to 12v electrical, multiple under car and in car neon installs, amps and so forth.

the car is black no more. i called the guy earlier to tell him the exact paint code(found in my sig) so they could get the formula from DuPont. i guess in the morning, the guy that went to sand it all down had to double check and make sure he was working on the right car, since the current paint was still pretty flawless(zymol pwns).

i would suggest that they paint the inside of the body kit, the body under the kit, then mount the body kit and paint it all together. Nothing ruins a nice paint job like body panels with a different tone b/c they were painted seperately

i was also worried about that, but he said rest assured they will match up. if they dont match, theyll be repainting it until they do.

I hope you have better luck with the clear then my dad did. When he had his truck repainted, then years later with waxing, the clear started to flake off.

Re: 1/4 scoops mock up

well this shop painted my buddies 89 5.0(username182), they used the single stage black(clear+color mixed) but prepped the car like they were gonna use the OEM grade paint.

that was almost 6 years ago. its now living in minnesota with his dad as his dads weekend car and mod car(its sc'ed with everything imaginable). the paint job, by his dads words, is still "just as deep and reflective as the day it was painted". true, its just a summer car, but still thats gotta say something for either the shop doing the work or the paints they use(or both).

which is why theyre doing the work. plus comparing the 200$ repaint they did with their stage 1 black on the tbirds drivers fender and front bumper, with the 1,600$ job done by another "recommended by ford and allstate", shows which shop is better. the 1600$ paints clear is coming off, and the black has no depth nor shine to it, its almost borderline satin now, versus the fender/bumper, which shows little signs of degradation and responds very well to waxing.
