Tex's Snorkel work

Well started on the snorkel a bit. Not much done today. More of getting fitment and amount of material ideas.

this is what the new airbox looks like to accept my K&N cone filter i used in my ghetto fabbed FIPK
(forgive camera phone pics, but camera was dead when the box was finished)

here is what the filter looks like in my box

got a couple inches all around the filter to allow air flow.

i never worried about it before when i had my FIPK

Here is FIPK

but anyways, i never worried about the bracket for the factory airbox with the FIPK in it cause it fit perfect in there, so i will have to modify it

I am gonna get my angle grinder back from my dad and cut most of it out, but leave enough for the winshield washer resevoir to stay in location, and relocate the connector thingy mebob that is attached to the bracket

if i dont, the new air box will look like this in there

this is as far as i got today. I have to wait till I go into town and stop at lowes to proceed any further. (dont want to waste gas to go today)

Need a 3" hole saw, my grinder, PVC pipe and bends, silcone, and 2 new hose clamps that i have been meaning to replace for awhile now.

You should so when you dont put it in gear and only use the E-Brake and it rolls out into the street and blocks traffic you will know it wont go dead in deep water.

Pretty cool man. I assume your gonna run it across the fender and up the A-pillar like most trucks?

Re: Tex's Snorkel work

yeah, it will exit about mid fender at the top then run up the a-pillar. just gotta figure out a way to secure it to the body. thinking large clamps that you run a bolt through, hard to explain, but there are a ton on C-130s (probably where i would get htem from too) but im not so sure how well it will hold up like that, to loose if you know what i mean.

I was origionally thinking of running it through the firewall, but it being a 5.8l EFI engine, too much crap on the drivers side firewall, and i cant think of a good way of turning it the other direction without a ton of new hoses and ****

Re: Tex's Snorkel work

ok here is todays work on the rig

air box now fits in the rig

had to take the factory airbox/washer fluid resivoir out though

till i find a suitable place to relocate this, i just cut that chunk of the bracket off

cutting into the sheetmetal again, everyone said after i cut my fenders it wouldnt be hard to lose more sheetmetal, still pained me to make this cut

should have bought a bigger hole saw, after an hour of fawking with it, i just couldnt make the 3" hole work, kinda like trying to stick the square into a circle type thing, they just dont fit

my work area, notice the dryer vent, yeah that failed miserably

so instead of coming out of the fender with the dryer vent into a the pvc, i used my 90* bend that was for the top of the snorkel thier instead, now yet again i gotta go to lowes

bottom portion painted up

test fitting the top portion

from inside the cab, not much blockage worth really mentioning

does not intefere with the door operation

under the hood

all painted up and mounted

doesnt stick out very far (notice the condisation in the blinker, oct 04 is when i sank the damn truck, i think i need to take the lense off sometime and dry it out

wanna see what happens when you dont look at the big picture?
this, oops

after extending the pvc from the snorkel to the air box and cutting a bit more off the last remenants of the air box bracket

for the most part done, gotta figure a way to mount the washer fluid/coolant resevoir since i cut its bracket off, dont want to use 300 zip ties to hold it on, silcone things up, get a dizzy boot, and really thats it.
