Got a new project car

It's a 1992 plymouth laser. It's non turbo, but has the same motor as the turbo'd model so that is something I will be doing later down the road. Right now it needs the motor rebuilt. However I got it from a friend for 200 bucks so it should be fun.

Leave it alone, dont mod it. Just drive the piss out of it as a DD till she dies.

Taken the crank for a walk yet?

*insert next DSM joke here*

They are fast cheap little buggers when all is said and done, just not the most reliable things in the world. I have helped numerous people push DSMs onto their trailers at the track, lol. Cool little cars though and for $200, why not?

he neednt worry. its a 6bolt. the ones that Crankwalk are 7bolt 4g63 motors, from 92.5 through 99. and sadly, 80% of crankwalk cases are/were misdiagnosed as Cwalk, when in reality a seperated crank pulley was the culprit. one guy did a full rebuild, but upon remounting the crank pulley found its seperated, and after measuring the tolerances of the bearing within spec, we all laughed at his misfortune.

but yeah, i would NOT turbo it. it technically *Is* the same motor as the GST/GST(4g63) but the amount you will spend to turbo it to a GST/GSX spec you can find a awd 1g for the same amount, and be already there with 0 hassle, and have 2 more drive wheels for uber launch.

and most cases of DSM unreliability is due to the owners, and the fact it costs a mere 2k to double the output the car was designed for, so its only obvious youre going to find the factory weaknesses within due time.

I'm not looking for an 11 second car out of it even though it is possible. I'm just wanting to build it to a decent all around car. I'd really like to get into some auto-x. I've already found ull turbo kits with intercoolers built for the non turbo'd motor for around 600-700. I'd be happy just to get the hp to around 200whp. That's more then enough in such a small car that would be used mostly as a dd and part time auto-x/drag car. I also have plenty of people who know how to work on imports and will help me build it without messing something up.

Re: Got a new project car

you could part that car out and make a good bit of money... the motor alone will probably bring 200 bucks if you clean it up good.. you can part out the doorts etc etc and probably make an easy grand or two.

Re: Got a new project car

I'm not parting it out. I'm not going to let you run over it nate sorry lol. Right now the goal is to just get it running again so i can use it at work to save the miles on the truck/reno. Then after I do a few more things to the truck i'll play around with the laser.

Also daniel I may still be getting a 4x4 through the trade on the probe. If not i'll probably find me a cheap 4x4 beater later on.
