welcome home Jimmy! I hit your car while you were gone

So yeah, I can narrow it down to a 2 hour window of when it happened. I identified a very very suspect car (I have red paint transfer, they have blue, the pattern is VERY similar). Of course, no note and the police (yes, I called them and opened a case) said they weren't home to talk about it. And of course... if they don't confess to it, nothing will come of it.

I was waxing it earlier today... this happened this afternoon

tell the police to follow up on it, you should still be able to sign a complaint against them whether or not they confess to it. that's like saying they can't sign a complaint against a bank robber cause they didn't confess to it...

I'm working up some evidence right now. I have a case opened and the police have attempted to contact them.

I don't think I'm black enough to qualify for reparations. I guess I did want to get the car repainted One part at a time

I also need front bumper, hood, fenders, roof

They could at least apologize and offer to pay for some of the damage.

That is sad. People now do not seem to have respect for others at all.

Re: welcome home Jimmy! I hit your car while you were gone

That is insane...I would be holding back every temptation to just destroy their car!

One day at my old job, I come out to my car with a giant white paint blotch on my rear bumper, and spider cracks everywhere in the paint...I wanted to hurt someone....really bad!

I had no note on my car...nothing! So the next day I took the bumper off and took it to my local bodyshop to repaint it...no way was I driving my car around looking like that! lol

Re: welcome home Jimmy! I hit your car while you were gone

well, I have located the car. I find it HIGHLY unlikely this car wasn't "the car". I'm waiting to see if they fess up to the cop or not. I'm not expecting them to, since there was no note. We'll have to see. I don't know when I'll get it repainted just yet. Kind of irritated I have to get both bumpers painted (the front has some peeling from a crappy job done by the shop I bought it from).

Definitely! I'm glad you figured out who it was though, hopefully the cops side with you and charge these people. At least you have a better chance of getting spotted for the paint job! I know down here, a good friend of mine works at the body shop that I go to, so he hooks me up with the painting (he's done a hood on my old car, the hood on my cobra, front bumper on the cobra, and rear bumper twice lolol) Good luck with everything.

Thanks... the cop didn't seem to think there would be a siding unless the person confesses (because he couldn't be 100% sure... even though he wiped a handful of sonic blue paint from the Toyota... and the paint transfer and scratch pattern). The cop was "on my side" and felt it was relatively open and shut (or so he said). Worst case scenario... I repaint the bumper.

The shop that'll end up painting it has painted:
a hood twice (once sonic blue, once black), c-pillars, my interior bezels

I would wait for a hot sunny day and go slap a piece of bologna on their trunk lid. See how they like that when its time to pull off that hot sticky bologna.

UPDATE: The roommate called the police station and said "I believe we may have hit a car...". The cop was rather sure the guy would admit to it, but is waiting for the official word from the guy.

The guy came and talked to me. He said we can handle it without insurance or police and that he'll cover the repaint. He's Vietnamese and "new" to the country.

Yah I could imagine...the only way he'd even begin to become anything remotely close to a friend is if he pony's up (bad pun) with the cash for a repaint.

That's not a good way to make a friend. At least fess up to the damn problem the first time. That would make a better friend ship.

good job inspector jimmy! you know I think that car that hit you really didn't know, the reason I say that is if I hit you and knew it but wanted to get away with it, don't you think I would at the least clean off my car? I don't know but I sure wouldn't leave it like that. anyway good job!

Re: welcome home Jimmy! I hit your car while you were gone

I went back and read the whole thread, I didn't prior to posting just to see it from a neutral point of view. yeah, you got him by the gonads. I had a 81yr old man remove my front bumper for me and he had no insurance, he did according to my estimate 7200$ damage. He was an old black man living in B’ham all his life and I just thought he’s had it rough enough through the 60’s here and he’s almost dead anyways so I didn’t do anything but just fixed my car. I had all the tools and the parts cost about 2500$
Again nice job tracking them down!
