Tupelo Museum-pics

Wife and I were in Tupelo today and took a couple hours to check out the auto museum there. I have to admit, I was somewhat skeptical going in...I mean, Tupelo?! Car Museum?! Elvis museum, yeah, I could see that, but what kind of autos would they have? Well, I was blown away!! They had some incredibly rare and expensive autos.

Had the camera so here ya go:

1886 Benz-credited with being the first "automobile" made

1955 Leslie 1 of 2 made

1949 Allard

1974 Jenson Interceptor III

1955 Messerschmitt

1929 Dussenburg 1 of 55 I think was the number

1925 Hispano Suiza

Come on, a Hispano Suiza!!?? In Tupelo?! Wow! And if that doesn't knock your socks off;

How about a Tucker!

...and then theres the original Dominoes delivery car. About a dozen of these wer built. Intent was to deliver pizzas in the for these ultimate in product recogition...but could get insured for 18 yr old boys to drive. Motorcyle engine powered.

I think the museum claims 150+ cars on display and you can also see several in the process of being restored. If you are a car nut to any degree you will enjoy this place.

Man, you were in tupelo and didn't say anything to anyone...
I could have been up there in about 45 minutes, and tiffeny was there all day lol.

But yeh, that's a personal guy's collection, he had all the cars in a big warehouse downtown until it got too big for it so he decided to build a new building and put the cars on display instead of keeping them to himself.

It is quite a nice collection.

Re: Tupelo Museum-pics

that is one awesome collection of autos. glad that the dude decided to share them. it would be a shame if he kept them holed up all to himself. those are the type of things that need to be publicly shown and admired up close.

Well anyone who wants to come up to it, there's a ton of cars and I'll personally walk you through it lol. I've only been there once...but it'll be fun nonetheless.

Yeah, it was one of those deals where we just got in the car and drove to get away from everything for a while and just kinda ended up there. Will be back though.

Yes, Yes it is!!

I had no idea. I figured there was a bunch of old Fords, Chebbies, Hudsons and stuff. Nice cars in their own right, but...Tucker, Hispano Suiza, Marmon. What did this guy do to amass this collection?

BTW one of the two Mustangs in the collection is a 70 Mach that has been pimped out. Argh, it was horrible. Metal flake paint, HUGE cobra decal on fenders etc

Well, whenever you get the urge to come back over, let me know and we'll have to get a small group together and do lunch or something. Tupelo is where tiffeny(aidan_04) is from so we're up there often.

Sounds good!

I have a new lens for my camera on the brown truck headed to 'bama. When it arrives, I may head back. Makes for some nice subjects.

Re: Tupelo Museum-pics

Sounds like a plan. I'm def up for a weekend of cars and pictures.

If it's warm when we meet up...I might possibly somehow can fanagle my way into convincing her dad into possibly getting the 66 out of the shop and get him to drive it up there.

Re: Tupelo Museum-pics

bah bah!! I fricking live there and haven't been. I know what's in there.. just haven't gotten to see them. I remember when he had them in the old warehouse on Main St., the windows of the place were blacked out, and huge locks on the doors.. not many people knew what was in there all those years until he got the money to build the museum. I personally find it fascinating.

Hope you liked T-town yo!

As B said, do tell when you come through again, we'll meet up!

Re: Tupelo Museum-pics

I emailed a friend that lives close to Tupelo and was telling him how surprised I was. He said there was a good chance the place was gonna be closed in the near future. Owner died a few months ago and it wasn't making enough to pay bills.

Would be a real shame if they liquidated such a great collection. A great day trip if you are interested.

You guys heard anything about it closing?
