GT500 + Road Coarse = Good times

Ouch...

A little backstory:
Quote:
So, the handicap placard isn't mine, but was under the seat. I put it in there for y'all to have something to make fun of. Seriously, though, on stock tires the Shelby was a handful if I got into the throttle, too much. Other than that it was a dream to drive. It really doesn't handle as poorly as it should. (Skeptics can begin flaming, here.) (If you haven't driven one, don't speak.) My experience in turn nine is only related to the fact that I could pick up so much speed, not because there was too much power. I spun because I didn't brake going uphill into nine, as I had been the entire rest of my time on the track. (Brain fart, I guess.) I couldn't shed enough speed to make the corner after the crest of nine, so the tail came around, the left tires debeaded and the wheels bit into the dirt.
Yes, it was the cool-down lap, but (bonehead me) I missed the flag 'cuz I was passing someone on the straight and didn't look at the flagman.
I'm not defending my actions, here. I thought you'd like to know what happened, since some have been writing about the accident. I may even post-up the in-car video I have.

For the flamers and haters, there are only two people that have any clue as to what happened - I'm one. The flagman in turn nine is the other (unless he was asleep.)

Thanks for the condolences, I'm OK, 'cuz the Shelby's built Ford-Tough. (Both doors still open and close, BTW.)

IF you are the a$$h@1e that stole the cobra from my front grill (I doubt it was a Mustang-owner, but I wanted to put it out into cyber-space) while I was in the infield medical center, I hope you window your engine block someday soon.

unless he has special insurance arrangments, they usually do not cover you for damages incurred for participating at any racing event. this is one of the things that is always on the back of my mind when going to the track, its the "If **** happens, ill be looking at a 25,000$ paper weight"

Some policies do cover track surface accidents...as long as it is not a timed event type of thing.

Then there are others that once you enter the gates, your funked whether someone backs into you or you hit the wall...doesn't matter.

Re: GT500 + Road Coarse = Good times

hrm, he was on the "cooldown" lap meaning it wasnt timed at that point. If he could get something from the track official claiming he crashed during a non-timed portion of the event, and if his insurance states that he is covered unless its a timed run, he might still be good to go.

for his sake i hope it all works out. as much as i hate the GT500 and their owners, it still would suck to see him get ****ed over because of a simple flaw in judgement, however thats pretty much how life goes anyways.

Allstate did not cover me in entering any event. I dont know what Progressive stance is on that though, but since i dont go to the track but once a year (if that) i really dont care but it should be something to look into before going.

Re: GT500 + Road Coarse = Good times

hmmm...the car is still pretty well in tact though considering he rolled it at least twice from what i could tell in the vid...

BTW, gt500's sound sick on the track, especially on an auto-x or road course where there is a lot of accelerating and decelerating...there was a gun-metal GT500 at my most recent auto-x event in Little Rock, AR last weekend, and it just sounded so cool...you can't hear the motor in those things at high rpm at all...the only think you can here is the incredible whine from the blower...

on a side note, gt500's suck at auto-x...too big, too heavy, and too much power...i beat him by 6+ seconds on the course...I was running on R-comps while he was on Nitto 555R's, but still, that would only account for about 3-4 seconds of my being faster...

They say that S197 really don't have an advantage over New Edge Mustangs on really tight track,(I assume because of the increase in size and weight) but on bigger tracks with really fast sweeper and high speed turn is where the new chassis really shines when compared to the older Fox based chassis, but IDK that just what they say. Actually now that I think about it they are comparing GT500s vs. 03/04 Cobras.

Re: GT500 + Road Coarse = Good times

high powered vehicles usually arent that suited for tight autoX. thats why cars setup for that type of racing can run better times with half the power, but because they are light and nimble it more than makes up for it. Miatas, Civic Hatchbacks/CRX's, RX7/8, Porsche 914's all come to mind as being great autoX platforms.

However cars like the above would not last long on larger tracks where there is room to use big power.

Re: GT500 + Road Coarse = Good times

See, it holds true, if you can turn, you aren't going fast enough... and apparently he was Should have put some slicks on and headed to the dragstrip instead, where those cars could shine a little better.
