it's a type of spray paint called nightshade you can find it at auto stores and it's really easy directions are on the can and pretty much just clean the lights spray on 2 or 3 coats and wait for it to dry then put a couple layers of clear coat on

+1 what he said. I've done it to plenty of my cars it's very easy. My current mustang is tinted that way. I actually did a write up on a DSM forum a while back I could probably pull the info and post it for you if you'd like?

That'd be awesome! I'm not gonna do the tails, I love the '01 Cobra tails too much. Lol. But I'm looking to do the 3rd brake light because mine is hazy. Thanks guys!

Can't find the damn thread that I posted ):
It's all very basic anyway.

All you'll really need if your just doing the 3rd brake light is 1 can of NiteShade and 1 can of clear coat, some 2000 grit Wetsand paper, miscellaneous microfiber towels etc, and some paint cleaning wax and polish. It's very hard to mess any of the steps of being that they are mostly all fixable.

Hazy Headlight on Left, used a scuff pad this time.

Once the light is off, give it a good cleaning with some dish soap or degreaser to remove any waxes.

Next you'll want to hit it with the 2000 grit until the whole light has a haze to it, this helps the paint stick.

Painting it is all personal preference, I did 3 coats of NiteShade, and 3-4 coats of clear for my taillights and that was perfect for me. Wait about 5-10 min in between coats.

I usually let mine dry overnight, but there has been times where I just didn't have the time an only gave it a couple hours and it was already dry. After the paint dries use some cleaner wax then polish to give it a final shine.

My tails and 3rd brake light to show you how they turned out for me.

Sorry for the long post about such a simple project! I just like doing writes ups and all lol, just wish I had more pictures available! Might re-do my headlights and do a full tutorial on the process. Hope I helped you any good luck bro

At route 66 going to the staging lanes, that's a high school class car, it ran 11.85, I wish I had a car like that when I was in hs.

Thanks, there were 2 other foxbody's in the row I parked in and i have to say mine was the nicest. One parked right next to me and looked like it hadn't been washed since it came off the lot, the other had great potential but looked like it was being preped for paint but stopped half way through sanding, I still told him nice stang though since it sounded good.

Yeah tell me about it. There was a white 40th anniversary behind me at a light today and when it passed me I was just like really...... The sides and rims were covered in mud.

Wow, how hard is it to use the garden hose to at least spray the mud off if you don't have time right at the moment to give it a good wash

Very true, it may have been one of those people who have a mustang and think of it as just another car.
