Cool picture setting - your thoughts?

You guys will probably thing I'm stupid, but I've been eye-balling this street where the town put up some new street lights within the past few years. These lights are more like spot lights rather than your typical street lights. This area would make an awesome nighttime pic. The problem is, this is a pretty well traveled street and the pic will need to be taken like 1AM or so.

Here is a test pic I snapped a little before 1AM today. What I'm looking for is I want the lights from one of the street lights to be on my car, but not enough to draw away from the background. I'll try it further back, but I think I'll need to have the lights off or just the parking lights. I want to make sure the blue color comes out in the pic.

So what do you guys think? Any ideas or tips?

Try it several ways.
I think if the pavement is dry so it doesn't glare so much it will help.

Thanks guys! I talked my wife into staying up one night on the weekend to help me out.

I think you're right, better when it's dry for reduced glare. I want to get back far enough where you can see several of the street lights, but close enough so you can see its a Mustang.

There's some work that needs done. I would recommend doing a High Dynamic Range shot or not have it as dark. The headlights completely blow out the shot. You could also do a shot where you expose the headlights a little less (so they don't blow it out), then do a shot without the car there at all (need a tripod) so you could get a hint of the actual background.

Cool, thanks man!

Yeah, I don't give you guys much of a look at the scene by itself. I'll try to snap that and see what kinda input you have on the best place within the scene. There is a good stretch between 1/8 and 1/4 mile long. I just think with the right person doing it, they could really make a cool pic out of it.

I think it would be cooler to save the picture until the sun is mostly set, then use the parking lights as like a beast awaking for the night.

Ok, here is a pic of the scene/setting. There is glare on the right side of the pic from the street lights. During the real shot, I would position myself so there would be no glare on the camera. Hopefully you can see what I mean about it being a cool setting for a car pic.

Picture the car setting under one of the street lights and how the street lights kinda make light how a spot light would make.
