What was your reasoning for dipping the wheels again? Just wondering.

when i was installing the suspension, i chipped the rims with the lug wrench. so i peeled one rim and did it over. since it was cold when i peeled it, it was very brittle and took forever peeling it. so i bought VM&P Naphtha and used that to repair the chips. then since i had all 4 rims off the car i figured why not re dip all 4 again.

Okay. They look really good, I've been deciding if I should dip mine or not. Sometimes I see ones that look nice, other times I see ones that look bad, but yours look good, so it appears that the more coats you put on the better

well there are a few factors that go into making dip look good or bad. i always say prep work is the most important. if the rim isn't cleaned good enough or at all then the results will be bad. dipping on a fully 100% dried rim is key. if your using the dip in cold weather and don't keep the can warm, there will be a lot of drips, and splashes. also if the dip is sprayed too far away there will be so much uneven texture and that will stick out really bad. another thing is if the 1st 2 coats aren't tack coats and they are sprayed heavily then the optimum results wont be achieved.

the key is being consistent when spraying. i spray about 6 inches consistently and i do about 5-6 coats. i also thoroughly clean/dry the rim before i dip. my rims have about 10 coats each now. i don't know if having that many coats is better than having 5-6 coats. when i first dipped them i did 5 coats. i know the dip does hold up really well to the outside elements but to a lug wrench def not. maybe with the thicker coats it would probably be easier to peel off if i ever wanted to go back to the stock look or change dip colors.

i like the dip because all i need to clean it with is simple green, no scrubbing either and let air dry. no water marks at all. best of all the dip imo is much better than paint because no sanding is required, and you can change the colors easily without harming the rims. plus its cheaper than paint.

heres 5 coats

now 10 coats

i dont really see too much of a difference from 5 coats to 10 coats. durability maybe

thanks for the positive feedback.

Thats the beauty about plastidip, you dont need to scuff or sand or prime. Just clean the surface and dry it 100% and then spray

Looking good, We have almost the same suspension parts except I have the sportline spring.

Are you going to do an UCA?
