Possible Mustang (Please Read)
Ok, so today my dad and I went to look at the 2001 Bullitt we saw for sale. It has 140k miles on it but ran like a champ. It was a pretty good clean car. There were a few imperfections in the paint, a decent amount of rock chips on the front, but can be buffed out for the most part with a good detail (1st owner put about 19k per year on it so all highway).
The interior was as clean as could be, the back leather seats looked practically untouched and the fronts looked pretty damn good for a 12 year old car. Minor curb rash on the wheels and small scrapes on the very bottom of the chin, probably from parking blocks and steep entrances. The 3rd brake light had quite a bit of oxidation on it, but that should be cheap to replace and i was going to smoke the lights anyway. The tires had decent/good tread left on them (for the amount that i drive they will last a long time though). The car was somewhat dirty when i saw it, but you can tell at one point they did a botch wax job because there was white all over the black trim parts.
The iffy issues. The splash shields look kind of broken, should not be too bad to replace. Another thing was that the ABS light was on, and the button for trac control was lit and wouldn't turn off (I have walk around videos and driving videos). Since it was at a dealer and the ABS and the trac control are a safety issue they are required to fix it before they sell it so i'm not terribly worried about it. The car fax showed that at about 20k miles the entire drivetrain was replaced, transmission, clutch ect. It was under full warranty so everything was replaced and its at 140k now so if a problem was going to show up it would have already. One of the side marker lights was also cracked, but again cheap fix.
They listed it at 8k, which is right at Blue Book value so we are going to try to haggle them down a little by offering straight cash... Everything seemed usual for a 12 year old car. I just want to get all of your opinions on it before i make any decisions.

The salesman we talked to had pretty good knowledge of Mustangs, he knows how rare bullitts are. Im going to offer a little less, but I'll be fine going 8

Man, that would be pretty awesome if you can get it! I think it is pretty damn good shape for the miles/year the owner drove it. How did the engine look underneath? Was it dry, no signs of oil leaks? The ABS could mean something as simple as low fluid, but could mean something in the system needs to be replaced too. Check prices and replacement parts so you have that info to talk with your Dad and discuss how you would like to handle it. That might be some ammo to a nicer price from the salesman. Or maybe a tool to get it fixed by them if they are stuck on their price. I'm sure you are willing to work on the brakes yourself so keep that in mind. Good luck! It will be great to see you in a Mustang finally.

I don't know about other states, but im in Cali and since ABS and Trac is a safety issue with those lights on they are legally required to fix them whether the car is sold or not, so if we do buy it they have to fix it before we take it home. Everything engine wise seemed great, the serpentine belt was squeaking a little bit and had a few very small cracks, easy fix though.

Based off your video and description it sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. The price seems pretty high for a car 140K miles on it,but then again it is from a dealer.

We looked up Blue Book value and they listed it right at value, which is expected from a dealer. I would rather pay a little extra from a dealer than from private party because private party can be risky if something is broken and they don't tell you. Dealer is usually more reliable even if more expensive.

Overall the car looks good, little flaws here and there but like you said it is a 12 yr old car, and the little stuff that is broke (belt/side marker lens, ect) is pretty cheap. The only thing I really didnt like about it was the wiper cowl. That's a $200 fix if you buy a brand new one. Your best bet would be going to a pull a part/junk yard and getting one for around $15-$20. Other then that price wise it's a pretty good deal imo.

I would try to replace them, since its part of what makes the Bullitt unique. Just keep in mind that they don't flex, and if you lower it, you will have to be that much more careful. A lot of lowered Bullitts end up with shaved down mud flaps due to scraping speed bumps. I try to avoid them all together, and I'm not even that low.

The car looks pretty sweet. I would shoot for like 65/6800 up to 7. Maybe you walk out under 7500. Like Azure said it's plenty of things you can hagle about like tread on the tired and the cost for replacing the parts/fix for the ABS. Do your research and then you and your dad have some sticking points to firm up the price. The bullit is a good find, and doesn't make every year run so that's a touch of vaule added right therreas well. Good luck

The ABS and trac control the dealer is required to be fixed by the dealer before they sell it. And yea Bullitts are pretty rare, which is why I really want it. They only made them in 01 & 08 right? Other than the Steve McQueen Bullitt.

IMBOC has all the info you could possibly want or need on Bullitts. The 01 had much more done to it over the standard GT than the 08-09.

Mach 1 Technical Specifications
^This is on the Mach 1 Registry, but about halfway down the page, they have a comparison between GT's, Bullitt's, and Mach 1's.

Just remember man, cash talks. If you go in there with $100 bills and show them cash, they will negotiate. I promise. Start at 6,800. Be like u fix whatever and ill give you $6,800.00 cash. I promise you everything is negotiable. If anybody else ever reads this post, if you go to a car lot to buy a car, never ever pay full price. I don't care if its a 2001 bullitt or a 2013 Shelby.

Exactly. I'm excited for you. I think all the guys are. Idk how long you been waiting on this moment but it sounds like your dream is about to be a reality. There is not much in life that surpasses that feeling. Weddings and births are about it in my book lol.

Unless you're making more than 2.9% on interest that makes no since at all. You'd be better off to just take out the cash and pay for it that way.

True, straight from a money sense, but you need to establish a credit history for yourself. This is a good way to start.
