Re: Looking for as.....opinions

I am not pulling the valve covers off this car.

If someone would like to volunteer to come to my house and pull them off I'd be more than happy to make them any color.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

they came pukey ford racing baby blue already? I see alot of people doing them or getting them done this way, but im not a fan. IMO valve covers should be black or painted to match with coil covers black to help tone it down with colored valvecovers.

Im probably pulling my motor this winter, low compression on drivers bank
Leakdown Test - SVTPerformance

Im doing the valve covers redfire and painting the coil covers black. Doing the blower black. Then getting a Redfire JLT CAI and having my current pulley powdercoated red anodized to match the billetflow idlers (its a SFPHQ pulley, and i dont want to spring the 180$ for a puller and $150 for a billetflow hub and ring, and to be honest im perfectly happy with the 2.93).

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

the valve covers are horrible to get off (well the drivers side) you have to remove the brake booster and such~ just a pain.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Losen the booster, move it to the side that 1/2 inch...remove the motor mount nuts...jack motor up about an 1" and the driver side will come right off.

Or you could lower the k-member an inch...but that's more bolts than the 2 motor mounts.

It's not near as hard as some make it out to be...but I do agree with previous comments, those ford GT blue covers need to go...either back to stock or sonic blue.

You might want to fix the damage from the wreck first

BTW, my supplier called me earlier, they're out of the silver 4 piece idler set and billetflow isn't making anymore until after the 1st. Going blue with the pulleys...we'll see how it goes. Upper is still silver for now...might play with pulley setups to see what nets the best. My tuner said he has a few extras of lowers and uppers laying around to find what will work best.

And the valve covers were this way when I bought the car, orig owner did not have the factory valve covers.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Steig recommends the 2.93 upper with the 4# lower for his ported blowers....or the equivilant 2.76 upper with 2# lower.

I'm about to change from my 3.1 upper/6# lower to a 2.93 upper/6# lower when the upper gets here monday.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

I have a 2.76 upper on the eaton at the moment and a 2# lower on the way. I'm gonna try the 2.93/4# combo on the dyno as well to see which one will net better streetable gains.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Well, they are both within a few blower RPM of each other, so they should put down about the same power. Hell, those two setups are also about the same as my 3.1/6# setup. I'm getting the killer chiller so I'm going to spin the **** out of the eaton for another year while I get the rest of the supporting stuff I need for my final goal.

That's basically what my tuner said...but we're both curious enough to swap them and do as close to the same dynopull to see what differences there might be. He's easily amused I guess lol.

Getting the fenders rolled at the same time as well. No more rub hopefully.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

I'm doing the same with my 2.93 and 3.10. Since they wil take the same belt, I'm going to do a couple pulls with the 3.10 then swap over to the 2.93 and see what kind of gains I get. Then, when I install the killer chiller in a couple months, I'm going to do the same test.

I too am easily amused.

My guess is you'll get a little more power out of the 2.93 set due to the extra belt wrap both up top and at the bottom.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Ok....gonna get a checklist started here...

Already here:

Blower
Billetflow 2.76 no-slip upper
Accufab ported plenum

On the way from my parts guy (sitting at his house):
Billetflow 4 piece idler set
Metco 4# lower kit
60# injectors (no harness needed)
Modified FPDM (was told to do this in lieu of BAP...we shall see)
NGK plugs

Just ordered:
Billetflow SBTB
JLT RAI

What am I missing short of a clutch, input shaft, tuner and tune to get this project done?

Cooling mod will be done when the tranny is dropped for the clutch/input shaft.

There were some questions about the clearance under the KB brace. After doing more research I have decided it will clear...we shall see...that's what I have a hammer for.

No one else makes a induction unit that will even come close to clearing.

I wanna keep it on cause it's Kenny Brown. Any other make and it'd be off.

That's exactly why, it's a rare piece and part of the KB package the car has.

i can see that then , I have just never cared for STB's for some reason on 03/04 cobras. I wish someone would start making their stuff again, they had some good crap especially the springs.

I would have the springs on my car if I could find them for less than 500 bucks for used springs...that's the only reason it has H&R. I really wish I could find the few missing pieces to make it a complete Kenny Brown car.

Then...I can turn it into a KBX2 car...the only one around lol.

Kenne Bell + Kenny Brown = WIN

O...and of course when I finally decide to get the ball rolling on the cobra I find out the 90 is mixing bodily fluids with itself. Not a good thing.

I finally figured out why mine was such a pain to line back up. Apparently the lower mounts close up leading to a binding action. Gonna use a BFH next time I have to drop mine.

Changed the oil on the 90, came out black. Back to diagnosing...still light white smoke from passenger side, but not driverside. Factory H pipe. I'm at a loss. Probably need to get out and drive it for a while to see if it clears up.

Also need to figure out where the heck the coolant went...

Well...back to this again.

Did some test fitting tonight with the factory blower. JLT RAI is not going to clear. Back to more fun. Probably gonna order the carbon fiber intake to attempt and see if it will clear or not. My accufab plenum/ billetflow throttle body setup barely fits between the strut tower brace bars and there's no room for the elbow to round back out for the solid intake part...

its not that it just barely clears, it needs the correct amount overall, I would say .25 would be pushing it for clearance

Well I spent a little time on the phone today with my tuner. He's saying I should just keep the stock piping and call it done...it isn't that much of a restriction with a huge filter on one end and a single blade throttle body on the other. Air's gonna move regardless of the piping.

I must say though, I put the ported plenum, single blade throttle body, and the huge *** filter on the end of the stock tubing and it sounded quite mean at idle. Could hear the intake over my exhaust in the garage...which is saying something.

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Few updates since my last post:

Fenders have been rolled, tranny is on the ground, cats are out of the X pipe, need to order a TOB retaining sleeve and cooling mod I guess while I'm in there. Spec 3+ clutch and D&D 26 spline input shaft are here awaiting install this week. Gonna get all this buttoned up and spend a few weeks getting the clutch broken in before putting everything else on.

I think black wold look great. Add in some detail like you said. Silver up the Ford and SVT, get some matching Sonic Blue in there perhaps.

I think black and blue is a great combo, like getting punched in the face

Re: Looking for as.....opinions

Well...I see how interested ppl are in this build lol.

Finally got my shims in for the input shaft and a shorty antenna...was bored. Hoping to get some more of this done.

In the mean time about to order new skins for the 90 seats...so the cobra may stay on jackstands till after the wedding. We shall see.

How the engine looks after finishing up my work tonight:

Doesn't look too bad afterall...got the injectors on there earlier as well. Now to put the rest of the vacuum crap on there, hook the egr up, put the new plugs in, etc etc etc...
