Re: Uh Oh.....

I've gotten the rear axle stripped down and ready for brackets and discs. I also flipped the rear springs around to get some stretch.

This was the old wheel placement:

Where the rear will sit now:

Re: Uh Oh.....

Got my jeep back drivable today, but it sat so long the batter was dead. Jumped it off, but was too excited and didn't let the battery charge enough before I took off. Died in a nearby neighborhood and wouldn't jump back off. So there it sits, no battery, until I get up to O'Reilly's to get the battery checked and put back in. But the rear axle is in and didn't fall apart for the little I drove it!

I got the bronco cranked after sitting for 3 months for an engine rebuild. It runs interesting with the timing 180 off. Went through the battery in the bronco and the 90 and picked up another battery last week to try again. Gotta trace down 2 more vacuum lines and set the timing and hopefully the truck is done.

Sure takes up alot of space in my garage just sitting there though.

Re: Uh Oh.....

Why would you swap to leafs they dont flex as well they ride terrible shure they keep body roll down but i can imagine that being worth the swap. I really like well built jeeps but when people swap a great working suspension for something like that. Could you enlighten me cause everybody else I ask just gets mad about that view. And before somebody tries to discredit me I drive a 1998 jeep wrangler sport with a locked dana 44 rear 4in long arms and 35s and more

Driving it from the yard onto the trailer and on the trail you can't really tell if it rides terrible or not Leafs can flex well as long as they are set up well and have a decent shackle angle. My main decision in going leafs though is the fact that I'm still in school and can't throw a ton of cash under a toy just for ****s and giggles....so I had to make a choice between building a nice link set up, running 35's, and breaking D30 or D44 shafts every weekend. I went with the cheaper suspension, 37's, and D60's and low risk of breaking anything. I guess the proof will be in the pudding next weekend when I beat the crap out of it for the first time.

Re: Uh Oh.....

ok I did some reading and aparently leafs flex better based on how flat they are. I cant believe you was breaking those axles that easy my tj has the low pinion 30 and dana 44 rear works great. I guess I am just bias since I have long arms lol

Re: Uh Oh.....

I was breaking shafts every weekend in my locked HP30 on 35s. This summer I scrapped 600 pounds of broken shafts and spare D30's I have bought over the past two years. Got tired of replacing shafts in the dirt all the time, lol.

D30 297 u-joint on the left, D60 332 on the right:

And a picture I took of D30, D44, and D60 carriers:

Re: Uh Oh.....

Went for a shakedown run yesterday! Worked pretty well, I think.

Got a little over zealous on one climb though...
