chevelle on the dyno

well I finally got around to it. I still have a ways to go. I didn't have big enough jets for the carb. in the set I had, so the car is running 13:1 air/fuel. the car made 310rwhp 380rwtq. It's got a lot more in it. having to keep the timing way down to be save.

That was the longest dyno pull ever...

Also, keep in mind Louis...you were on a mustang dyno which reads lower. You numbers roughly converted to dynojet numbers are 337 hp and 414 using a 9% correction factor.

On my way actually...was just checking the forums real quick. Decided to do the bushings in case I can't finish the headers in one day...I don't want to leave my motor resting on a $15 walmart jack for 4 days.

I think I'm also going to drop my gas tank to do the pprv delete...can't wait to take a gas bath since it is about 3/4 full.

Re: chevelle on the dyno

It's a check valve in the tank that keeps pressure in your fuel lines. During hard shifting it will cause a hesitation sending your car super lean for a split second. Mine has been hesitating on me every time I drive hard for the last few months...

And I just realized I won't be doing that today. Looks like I will only be doing most of my bushings.

Yes...all stock cars do to keep the fuel lines pressurized when the car is off.

Re: chevelle on the dyno

I wish I would of kept my 70 chevelle malibu. Sadly I didn't have time or money for it. Got a steal on it. Got it for 1500 with 73k original miles. Needed some int and body work, but ran great. Had a 307 with 2spd power glide in it.

mustang dyno? you can put any car on any dyno. can you explain to me the difference between a "mustang dyno" and dynojet? is there a camaro dyno? if so, i'm going to put my mustang on that dyno.

Mustang is the name of the company that makes the dyno: Mustang Dynamometer / Mustang Engineering: Chassis Dynamometers, Engine Dyno, Transmission Dynes & Tow Dynos; Dyne, Dyno, Dynamometers

Re: chevelle on the dyno

It is because of the way that the mustang dyno provides resistance. Many other dyno's are just free spinning. The mustang dyno more closely represents real world driving numbers because it puts resistance on the rollers based on the weight of the car.

Some of the other manufacturers like Dynojet also have this resistance capabilities, but not all models and it is usually an add on feature. Even so, the mustang dyno still usually reads lower. Sometimes it will read as much as 12-15% lower numbers. It all depends on the configuration of the dyno at the time of the pull.

The dynos without the resistance will generally read much higher than any dyno that has load resistance.

On a side note, I think I miss-spelled resistance about 6 different ways in this reply. Good thing for spell checker.

Re: chevelle on the dyno

Also, as a proof in concept, and something I am really interested in trying out some time...you could go to TPS and get on their dyno, make a couple pulls....then shoot over to stang hi and make a couple pulls on their dyno. Cody @ Stang Hi has a loaded dynojet, so you would be able to see the difference between the two dynos on a same day pull type thing.
