Red face questions about removal...

I want to take my side scoops out and paint the mesh-looking part of it. Anyone know how to take them out?

I also want to get a billet headlight knob, but how do you remove the stock one?

And, last question, how do you removed the interior door handles? I am either going to get billet ones, or paint those, but I don't know how to remove them.

Thanks!

On the side scoops, just taking the "mesh" looking part out is quite easy. It just pops out. Nothin but a piece of plastic. As far as the interior door handle, if you'll pull the door panel off it should be readily accessable. I need to do a how to on the door panel...keep forgetting. And the headlight knob...I think it pulls off..but don't quote me on this.

there's a way with a screwdriver, or you can try a bent nail.

You have to push this pin in that's inside of the knob and push then pull real fast. It'll work, it just took me for-freakin-ever.

pull the knob out, and u may have to turn it slightly. there is a slit down the side and the pin is in there.

If you want to take the scoops out to do a primo re-paint, they are easy to get out if you don't mind some disassembly. The scoops are held in with three kep nuts on the inside. You will need to remove the upper and lower sections of the rear seat, the interior covers on the inside below the rear windows, the rear speaker boxes if you have a MACH sound system or the speakers and brackets, and the water-proofing plastic to gain access to the three kep nuts. There is a trick to getting the lower section of the rear seat out. There are two plastic retaining tabs on the bottom of the lower section of the rear seat. You could use a second person to help you push down forcefully on the seat above the tabs while pushing the tab in. The plastic mesh is removed by FIRST gently prying out the bottom section of the mesh, slide the mesh up vertically, and the mesh will pop out. If you try to take the top of the mesh out first, you will crack the plastic tit that holds the top of the mesh in. Message me if you need anymore information and I will be glad to help you out.

if you rotate the light knob you will see a little slit on it and a metal clip holding it in place if you pull back on the metal little peice it will raise up and you can slide the knob off it will take some pulling....

the side scoops are not hard to get off you just have to take the inside panel behidn them off to get acess to them.

Just did the headlight knob in a hot second, that was way easier than I thought it was going to be. I used the allan wrench they gave me with my billet knob, inserted its handle in the hole, pulled it and the knob forward at the same time and it popped right out.

The mesh will have to be done another day when it's not so chilly. Now I know how to do it though, thanks!

the headlight knob looks 1,000,000 better aluminum... lowflyn... you won't be sorry. All I did was cut apart my headlight knob. I got frustrated. After the first hour, I said screw this, got out a 5" serrated switch blade.... it was new, and just cut the thing to peices. It was fun. After I had cut the plastic off, the head light knob came off quite easily. Then, installation was a BREEZE.

I ended up destroying mine too. Billet is the way to go. I've got the polished steeda headlight knob, and the guage cluster bezel is painted aluminum. It looks sweet. Now I'm just trying to find a billet knob for my halo-guage dimmer. It never ends.

Something soothing about billet...it calms my nerves... :spot:

Re: questions about removal...

Hey guys..sorry to interrupt this thread...but I don't know how to start a new thread.

I have a 2003 mustang GT with the interior upgrade package....which includes an aluminum ring around my shifter. My headlight knob broke..actually came off....quite EASILy..and ACCIDENTALLY for me

NOW..I want to get one of those metal knobs..but I don't know what finish to get...silver anodized...chrome polished....machine finish...I want it to match my shifter ring...ALSO..the little clip to install the original knob broke...do the "new" knobs come with a replacement clip??..Any info would be appreciated..as I hate using needlenose to turn on my headlights..lol...

Thanks
