headlight resoration

so i have 3 sets of headlights for my stang 1 good clean pair and 2 crappy fogged pair i looked at the article about restoration so i thought i'd try it instead of using 600, 1500,2000 grit sand paper i used 400 and 1500 both for about 10 minutes kept it wet the hole time then used some ice polishing wax and they look brand new except a lil crack that was already there

i just thought i'd let everyone know a quicker way and it does work but you have to use the wax when your done

IMO those things still don't last but I would do that If I plan to sell my car actually I bought my smoked headlight on ebay and I cleaned them with Klear Lites yes as is I've heard a lot of good reputation about it that's why I bought it the last bottle has like a sticky liquid that had lasted pretty good I've 6 months with the lights and they still shine.

But new headlights will be better cuz you can't make them look 100% original if they werent too much damaged..

I think the peeling is quite a common issue on our cars also!

Re: headlight resoration

My 02 had an issue with peeling. I sanded all the way through it and used a plastic polish and car wax over the top, to my knowledge those headlights still look just fine and that was a few years ago.

Re: headlight resoration

I did mine a while back, and I just wet sanded with 1500 grit to remove all the clearcoat, and then followed that with a 200grit. The I got a cloth polishing wheel on my drill, and started off with some turtle wax rubbing compound, then went to PlasticX to get everything perfect. The wet sanding took the most effort by far. The buffing is BEST done with a drill or buffer, some people said they've even used a powerball.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the sun if you maintain the car on a garage the headlights will last more...
