Exclamation Need Sub Box Help ASAP!

I want to change over to one 12" sub instead of two 10" subs, I want to get a Dual Voice Coil 12" sub, either 2 ohms or 4 ohms(preferably 2 ohms=more power) but I can't find a single 12" sub box with two connecting ports. This way I could still use my 2-channel amp and just put the same sub on both channels. Anybody know what I can do?

What 2-Channel amp do you have? To run one DVC sub from a 2-channel amp you are going to have to bridge the 2-channel amp at the correct ohms the amp supports in bridged mode. If you tell me the amp model number I can get you a picture showing you how to wire it.

the amplifier has to be bridgeble, you have to wire it in a parralel circuit to bring it down to 2 ohms.
(thats what my brother said)

I wonder if it would be worth the trouble...maybe just keep 2 10" subs and just buy more powerful ones....

(thats what my brother said)
You don't have to wire it in parrellel and in fact by doing so on a amp that doesnt support 2ohm bridged you risk burning the amp up.

Example:

You have (1) 12" Kicker DVC @ 2ohms that can handle 400RMS
You have (1) 2 Channel amp that is bridgable to 400x1rms @ 4ohms

If you wire that sub in parrellel you drop the ohms to 1ohm and you the amp goes into protection mode(best case) or you fry it(worst case)

If you wire the sub in series you raise the ohms of the amp to 4ohms and you have everything perfect. You are pushing out 400 watts rms @ 4ohms which is the max rms that the sub can handle.

It all depends on the equipement you are working with.

Give me the specs of your amp @ 4ohms bridged because Sony doesnt make a 2 channel amp that is bridgable to 2ohms stable.

Take that rms rating @ 4ohms bridged and buy you a sub that matches that number.

Then wire it like this:

You have to look on your speaker wire terminals of the amp and see which positive and which negative are bridged and then put one wire on that positive and the other wire on that negaitive.

Any more questions and I will be glad to help just ask.

May just be better off with a 10" DVC? I've got a fosgate HE 10" DVC, and It's more than enough. If you're trying to cut down on ft3, a single 12 takes around 1.25-1.5 as a minimum(?) where as a 10 takes .75-1.15(?) A high quality 10 (DVC) goes a long way, at least from what I've seen.

(Mine's middle of the road, and I'm totally happy with it)

Just a suggestion.

I don't think fosgate makes a HE DVC...HE2 would be the beginning of the DVC line with the HX2 being the step up. This is all in the punch series however, the power series is a compeltely different story. I used to have 2 12" HE's, and every HE I've ever seen is SVC.

I don't know that they still make them, but I have a HE2. Had a whole bunch of them at best buy when I got this one. I think it was a couple years ago.

Yeh, I just knew the HE was a SVC. Just clarifying for my own sanity lol. I did a system for a guy, 2 HE2 10's, with db1000.1 on them. OMG, it sounded so nice till he blew them...then he picked up 2 HX2 10's, and ran them off the same amp, it was nice.

If you're talking to me, they're fiberglass. Formed them into the side of my trunk. They're held in place with 2 pieces of velcro on each one. Fun to do, I'll make some for anyone interested, the price normally runs ppl away though. Alot work go into them, and alot of materials too.

You can pm me with what size speakers you want and such. I believe our models share the same trunk, so I'd just use my trunk as a mold. And yeh, my boxes sound great. They rival the boxes I made before specifically to the specs of these speakers.

Believe me, don't buy a box, then buy a sub. Buy a sub and build the box to the exact specs the booklet calls for, if your box has too big a volume for your sub you can blow out the suspension and hurt your sub. Also if the box isn't tuned for your lowest frequency your going to put through the sub it could hurt.

That site has a volume calc and a box maker. You'll be happier if you match an amp and box to your sub setup.

Also, I have that same amp and it runs pretty well in bridged mode. I used it on a Rockford sub push i think 400 RMS maybe 300 and it pounded.
