A-pillar Paint?

Am I going to have paint my A-pillar that I'll be getting for my turbo gauges? I've been looking all over for ones that come pre-painted but can't find any. I'll be fine if I have to paint, but I was hoping to save some hassle. And if I do have to paint, how much will it be from Ford?

Re: A-pillar Paint?

are you talking about the A-Pillar overlay from autometer.. if so its a POS just get the a-pillar pod as I have... it looks much much better (ive installed both) and it goes on much easier and what not.... you can come look at my gauge set up. Just go with black and dont paint it, it works fine.

They do make paint... its though ford and it works really well... as far as exactly how to get it just try calling local ford dealers, some might be retarded and have no clue... others might.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

Yeah, it's gonna be the whole pillar. My interior is Dark Charcoal so I can't just leave it black. I hate to go through the dealers but I guess I'll have to.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

don't you work at autozone? if it's like kragen then they should have paint that would work. just sand down the pillar a bit, spray on the adhesive and then spray on whatever paint color you want. that's how i'd do it but then again i'm cheap about small **** like that.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

We don't have "Official Dark Charcoal", so that won't work, I'm picky about my interior so...

Re: A-pillar Paint?

I don't think we can get too much paint special ordered...I can give it a try. I'd hoped my interior painting days were done 'cause it was a pain but it did turn out realy good...

Re: A-pillar Paint?

yea i know what you mean, but if it's just the pillar it shouldn't be too involved.. i did my interior which turned out decent since i didn't know what i was doing. it was a practice, and next time around i'll get it perfect.
I don't know what to suggest if you want it to match but don't want to paint it. only pillar or gauge pods i've seen are black.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

dotn get the full pilar... it moves the gauges very far down at the bottom, where they are a pita to see. You can custom set the add on peice and paint it to match, it will look 100x better than the full peice, which just sits over the OEM part.... you still have to drill and use push pins to hold it on... trust me.

Yeah, I didn't even see that this had been posted until I already got it. The color match is hardly noticeable tho, so I'll go around without painting for a while to see it in different lighting. If it's bad enough, I'll go ahead and paint it. For attachment, that sucks. Maybe I'll just use a lot of 2 sided auto tape, or some sort of "permanent" fix.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

I might be able to next weekend, but the week after is absolutely out of the question since I'll be having a test, a tournament, and be working 40 hours since one of our managers is going on vacation...

Re: A-pillar Paint?

so you got the full piece and it sucks?

i had a full pillar replacement for my gst and it was perfect. i ordered grey and it matched the interior just fine, and pod placement was low but right in the field of vision in the windsheild. you dont want them too high, cause you dont want to take focus off the road, it should be down low so its peripherally seen as you focus ahead.

i wouldnt recomment anything BUT the full replacement type. screw ons look crappy in any shape or form. spend the same price and get the full piece, that way you dont have to hack up the old one if you ever decide to revert it back to no gauges.

heres a quick pic of my gst gauges

Re: A-pillar Paint?

Well, in the catalog, it LOOKS like a full replacement, not like just the partial thing that just holds the pods onto the stock pillar. But in reality it's just a slip on that covers the whole pillar, not a brand new pillar, which is kinda gay.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

mine was like that, it was "supposed" to be slipped over the stock piece and double sided taped to it for support. **** that, i took the stock piece off and stuck the cover in there instead, few self tapping screws through it and bamo, done.

Re: A-pillar Paint?

I wondered if that would work...
How easy is it to see the screw holes?

Re: A-pillar Paint?

i used self tapping screws, the ones with the drill tip at the end, they made their own holes in the metal part of the a-pillar. just make sure you dont go through a harness or anything, i was a few inches away from the dome light and rear view light harness.
