Re: scratches on rims

what kind of rims do you have?
I have crap that builds up too and it started happening after i got new rotors and brake pads all around. for the buildup i would say clean your rotor, hub, caliper, and the inside of the wheel really good with a damp rag. just try not to breathe in the brake dust.

Re: scratches on rims

Could be just road tar and brake dust mixing to form one ****ty substance. When I was detailing I hated getting tar off the car/rims.

Use a little laquer thinner on a rag and wipe it and see if it smears or anything.

Is it hard, brittle, soft, gooey or what?

If it's really hard and on there, gently chip it away with a small chisel. Then use a brilo pad to take the rest of the stuff off. Then I'd use a polisher like eagle one or something to clean up.

Do you have any pics? Are the rims aluminum?

Re: scratches on rims

yeah its hard, and like i said earlier its sort of like concrete looking or something. here are the rims on my car, but i don't think the picture is good enough to tell what the stuff is.

Re: scratches on rims

I have some curb rash on mine as well...also..if you've ever done some sliding in gravel, it'll eat away rims fast.
