Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

Alright, putting together a small Christmas list for the stang...

I'm looking at mostly exterior mods since they are the cheapest and most practical right now.

Price cap is around 120 dollars or so, here's my options:

Mach 1 grille delete (69.99)
Black Gas cap (69.99)
Smoked tail light/3rd brake light tint (49.99)
3 point strut tower brace (104.99)
black hood stripe (similar to the Mach 1 one that goes in front of the scoop) (29.99)
quicklift hood struts (gas springs) (69.99)

Also, all of these parts are from American Muscle. The tail light tint is fairly expensive, but I'm willing to pay more if the ebay stuff is garbage. Anyone know if the ebay stuff is worthwhile, I'm guessing it isn't. Also anyone know if the black gas cap is cheaper anywhere else? I like to remain loyal to great companies like AM, but if I can get it for $50 somewhere, I'll do it.

Mach 1 grille delete (69.99)
>Personally I like the honeycomb, I don't get why others don't.

Black Gas cap (69.99)
>I think this would look really good, especially on a Sonic Blue Mustang.

Smoked tail light/3rd brake light tint (49.99)
>You can never go wrong with tinted lights. However I was reading a "How To' on painting the lights with Testor's model paint, so a possible hold out on this?

3 point strut tower brace (104.99)
Braces are nice, kind of a nice compromise between form and function.

black hood stripe (similar to the Mach 1 one that goes in front of the scoop) (29.99)
>Meh, without the shaker hood I can never find myself to like that small black stripe on a hood.

quicklift hood struts (gas springs) (69.99)
>I'd prrobably go with these as I don't like hood props. Plus there is some extra cash and you again get form and function.

This is all my opinion anyway which may or may not hold any value.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

69.99 from AM is probably the best deal your going to get when you take into account free shipping. I have a black fuel door from AM, good quality and easy to install. That and my Mach 1 grille delete made a huge difference on the appearance of the car. The grille delete was also easy to install. I think these 2 mods would look good on your car and give you the best bang for your buck.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

Thanks guys. Osirisguy, you have pretty much the same outlook as I do on those options. The hood stripe and the strut tower brace were just a couple of things I found that sparked some interest. I saw the black hood stripe on a sonic blue GT for sale and it looked pretty good (adding to the black/blue theme) but I'm always hesitant on adding decals (thought it might deter attention to sonic blue color)
I've always liked both the honeycomb and the mach 1 delete, but I think the delete might clean up the front and look good with the chin spoiler and the smoked fogs/headlights, so I'm on the fence.

You're probably right 67mustang97, I forgot to take the free shipping into account. After looking at your GT, I'm leaning towards that black gas cap and the grille delete. I may have to squeeze the tail light tint in as well, just to complete the look, lol.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

Personally, I'd stay away from the decals. The rest.....for your set-up of black accents, would work out very well.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

I agree with the blacked out lights. Have you seen these taillights from AM, Smoked Mustang Taillights for (99-04) 114.99 sale runs through Sunday. I'm no good at tinting so these are on my list.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

Yah I saw them, but I'm going to try the tinted strips. I've done headlights on a friend's GT and my own fogs, so I have some experience. Plus, I'm too cheap to buy a set of pre-tinted tail lights anyways lol.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

A friend of mine had 2 shorty antennas break from washing his car by hand. So I decided to make my own out of my stock antenna. This way you can cut it down to the size you want. I used a vice to hold the antenna in place close to the ball on top. Then I took a claw hammer and took the ball off just like removing a nail being sure to hold my hand over the top so I didn't loose the ball. Then I measured how much I wanted to cut off with a hacksaw I left about half the antenna so I still got good reception. I took the remaining section of the antenna and ground the tip down with a bench grinder so the ball would fit back on. Make sure to use some sort of epoxy or the ball wont stay in place. Then paint and your done.

Re: Need some Opinions on Exterior Mods

Yeah I was ready to order one than my friend broke his second one, I figured I'd try to make my own. I haven't had any problems yet.

Yes I have a shorty antenna (I couldn't stand that damn fishing pole).

Lowering springs are priority no. 1 this spring/summer. I can't stand the 4x4 look anymore. After that, 4.10's and a tlok followed by a tune. I wish I could do it sooner, but school and about 15 hours a week at work doesn't allow, lol.

Yah I was looking at it on American Muscle. I figured I'd get the 2 piece and just cut out a square where the two screws have to go for the pony.
