Need some help picking new rims

Hello All,

I am set on buying new Bullitt rims, but I can't decide on chrome or black. My budget is $1100 so I can only go 17X8 with chrome on all four tires but the black are much cheaper. I can go 17X9 in the front and 17X10.5 with the black rims. The color of my car is crimson red. So which will look better?

Re: Need some help picking new rims

I personally like painted rims, but they are a ***** to upkeep and slight imperfections (curb rash) can show up more. If you really want the different tire sizes then I'd either get the painted Bullitts or wait a little while and save up for the chrome sizes you want.

In your case I'd go with Chrome, it will probably look better against your red color and you have the rocker panel strip in white, and not much black accents on the car so the black will probably look out of place.

You are probably going to hear a lot of votes for chrome as well.

Re: Need some help picking new rims

I personally think chrome would look better with crimson red, but the wider wheels in the rear would look 10x better than 17x8's. It's really up to you. As OsirisGuy said, color matching accents are key to making the wheels work with the car. Maybe consider swapping the rocker panel stripe to black and add a black fuel door if you go with black rims. You could always look into the anthracite (dark grey) bullitts...they are cheaper than chrome as well.

Here's some pics of unclesteve714's crimson red mustang. That's the only crimson red/black mustang I can think of...he does have a few black accents to help blend the black rims.

These look great and the 10's in the back.....very nice. You can always peel that white stripe on the side which will make it look much cleaner.

Personally I don't consider smoked taillights as "black accents". It sure helps and makes any black accents look better but the lights are still transparent. Basically that white rocker panel is a huge white accent that will clash with black Bulls.

Re: Need some help picking new rims

My stripe is not white. It's actually arizona beige. Beige doesn't help the case for black though. Second, those pics of the others members car is not a crimson red mustang. That's a laser red mustang. All crimson red mustangs got special things that others don't have like bigger headrest and painted mirrors which the one in the pic doesn't have. Crimson red is more like maroon. It is the darkest red mustang I have ever seen beside dark candy apple red. Does that change anything?

Re: Need some help picking new rims

yea the anniv package is a special color with gold accents (Arizona beige). I personally dont like that color but... its part of the package and it is a rare type package especially on a v6 so I would keep them the way they are (unless you have a SPARE set of stripes then you can take them off as you can revert later on )

Re: Need some help picking new rims

Spare... No way. I have called every ford dealer in the Area and graphic express even says (in big letters) arizona beige not avaiable. I love the gold bullitts but I got the standard v6 rims with gold pockets. I don't think I can find the stock gt rims because they Are rare and unique. I am leaning more towards the chrome but the size doesn't matter that much. I could spend more if I wanted to but I just don't feel like paying over 1100 for rims and tires. That's just my personal opionon

Re: Need some help picking new rims

I would check with everyone I could, I know ive seen some aftermarket gold centered bullet rims before~ its been a while though. I am sure you could have them painted to look right (or powdercoated) and 17xX's are not that expensive so you should come out ok in the end and it would be something rare that you dont get to see everyday.

I would take off the rocker stripe and go with the black deep dish. I think it looks good on that color.

Re: Need some help picking new rims

If you are leaning towards chrome Bullitts, check out blueovalindustries.com; they have 99-04 17x8 chrome FRPP Bullitts for $149 each, including tri-bar pony center caps. Search on M-1007-B178C. My opinion: chrome is the way to go on your color.

I too have heard horror stories from B.O.I. Go with AM especially if you plan on getting tires put on, they'll do a fre mounting and balancing and offer Nitrogen fill, if you are into that.
