Hood Scoop

Hey guys,

Over the summer I put a GT hood scoop on my V6. The problem is the bottom side of the scoop doesn't sit flush with the hood due to a crappy cut job on the scoop and its really starting to bother me. Does anyone know of any easy way to seal this up? I was thinking just some silicone sealant might work but I wanted to be sure it would be safe for paint on the hood in case the scoop needs to come off in the future. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Hood Scoop

The sealant might work, depending on how much of a gap you're referring to. Silicone should not harm the paint, as many synthetic waxes and polishes contain silicone.

Re: Hood Scoop

Yeah the gap isn't too bad, about a 16th of an inch at the biggest part, but it is enough to piss me off when I look at it. Thanks for the input, i wanted a second opinion on the silicone before I screwed my paint up.

Re: Hood Scoop

Got any pictures of said scoop? If it's a factory scoop you might not have moved it far enough back. 99-00 V6 hoods did not have the rear holes marked underside like 01-04.

Re: Hood Scoop

I don't have any pics of the scoop currently, I'm back at school up in VT without my camera. But the scoop isn't factory, its just a GT knock-off (which I didn't realize when I bought it online). But its quite obvious that whoever cut it couldn't get a straight cut along the hood line, which is my only complaint about it.

Re: Hood Scoop

if its in the right place then you have binding on the bolts you need to take the scoop off and figure out where the issue is. If you left those stupid guide pins they can be cut off.

Re: Hood Scoop

You're welcome. I sometimes take a while to reply, because of the hours and shifts that I work. I try to respond eventually. Hope you get the problem resolved.
