Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

krylon fusion is a spraypaint used mainly on ceramic, wood and plastic outdoor surfaces..........it dries to the touch in 15min and has a rather glossy finish. it also now comes in a latex version (krylon h20), but i would go for the oil as it will dry harder and have a more durable finish.

i dunno how it looks on the interior of our cars, but it should work, as it is just plastic you are spraying over. the only issue that i would worry about is temp.....i dont really know how it holds up under extreme temps (windows up in your car in the summer) but seeing as that its an oil based spraypaint goin on plastic, i really dont think you should have a problem.

we sell this product where i work, so if you have any more questions, let me know

Never used it on my interior, but used it on my rear bumper and it went on very smooth.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

like any other paint, its all about how well you prep the surface.

scuff it up with some brillo pad and rubbing alcohol, then high build primer, sand, then spray.

youre not planning on going ricer on us are you?

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

I used the gloss black on my inner wheel well plastics on the red bird, i hardly prepped the surface, and the paint still stuck very well. Also used it on the gas tank, since it has that plastic cover on the bottom.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

It says on the can and on the Krylon web site specifically not to scuff or prep the plastic other than clean the plastic.

No not going ricer. I am going to paint the door speaker grills black and door latch cups. Just wondering if I want to go with Gloss or Satin

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

On some of my interior parts I just used the Dupli-Color that matches my exterior, & clear coated them. No sanding just cleaned well & alcohol final clean. Still doing fine after several years of daily use.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

Yeah, do not scratch or scuff the surface with that stuff. It sticks much better to a clean smooth surface. It bonds chemically.

I've never personally used it, but up until this thread all I'd heard was good things about it. :dunno:

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

So once again I ask which should I use Gloss or Satin ???????

This is why I ask. This is my thinking. Since it is not a smooth surface but textured the Gloss wont shine as much and be like I always had protectant on it like Armour All, but I am not sure. I know we have people here who have painted the interior parts so speak up.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

I've only painted mine with actual paint that would need a clear, but may have to look into this, if they have an "aluminum" color

I used Krylon Rust-O-Leum Metallics so I don't know about that. I'd use Gloss tho.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

you will need to sand the peices smooth else it will look grainy, get them painted at a shop if you want to not cut corners and do it right. Spray paint can work good... but its never going to be as good as a professional shop.

Doors are grainy. I am not about to sand down door parts.

Corey,
I will have to get & post pics of mine for you.
If you are not going to put a clear over then I would use gloss not satin.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

Well here is the update. I bought Gloss Black Fusion. I have not painted it yet because of the rain and humidity right now. However I have a fall back. Here at work we have a serious paint facility used to paint anything including the largest aircraft in the world and I have a friend who owes me one that is one of the paint supervisors who part time paints cars. I will take it to him if it does not turn out like I like it.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

Krylon Fusion is the best spray can paint I have ever used period!!! The nozzle sprays a perfect pattern almost as good as a paint gun. Not once did I have runs like most spray cans. I am very amazed

In a nutshell I would recommend it to anyone

mmm mmmm thats gonna smell great come summer time and the paint bakes in the heat..........trust me on this. gonna get in the car and BANG insta-high. unless you fabreeze the fawk out of it. just make sure to leave then windows cracked in the summer, even though the paints been on there for a long time, the heat will still bring out lots of fumes, which will film your interior windows to hell.

looks good though.

Actually no it wont. You dont give me much credit. I have been modding cars for 25 years. Just the first time to use Fusion paint. I check the product out. It is a low odor indoor/ outdoor paint. You dont really think I am going to drive around smelling paint fumes do you???? As I write this the door panels are under heat lamps just like paint shops use. They will be there for a couple of days creating a hard shell and burning off almost all residual vapors or odors.

Cool Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

I wanted to use fusion paint on my 79 stang when I reworked it but I could not find but two colors of blue and both were way off on the shade I needed so I had to go a with a different paint made for plastics and fabrics it said on the can. It worked well and has held up for over 2 years but I dont remember the name of the paint I never had much of a paint smell and that only lasted a very short while. I did paint a set of wheel centers on my wifes old pontiac sunbird with red fusion paint and it held up really great for over three years + now in the weather and still have gloss with no fade. the center is only about the size of a half dollor. I wish they just had a wider range of colors to choose from. I think it will be a great paint for interior plastics if you can find the color you need.
Some years back I used something call marhyde that was supose to be for interior plastics in a 79 Camaro I had and one day I was running about 90 mph with the windows down and it started pealing off the plastic in sheets flying around inside the car it is funny to look back at now but I was really POed at the time.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

I have been researching Krylon for a long time (I like to be informed) and i am very picky when it comes to my pony, I have to say i have heard very good reviews. As long as you apply it correctly. Clean the surface very well, do not apply primer, do not sand the plastic, apply 2-3 coats with an hour between them, then let it sit for a week atleast, letting it sit is the "Bonding" process. I have heard people knicking the kick plates with screwdrivers and it doesn't scratch. Practice on a non-essential plastic part and go nuts testing it, i would be very interested to hear how it goes.

Re: Need feedback on Krylon Fusion paint

The paint dries fast, and looks awsome, when i get a chance ill put some pictures up, the black looks the best, especially on any interior trim (doors, kick plates, and dash)
