I would be hesitant to sand chrome. I know when they prime chrome wheels they dip them in an acid bath 1st. You could try lightly sanding jsut enough to rough up the surface. If it were me I'd try getting some chrome somewhere and experimenting. Just don't try that with your girlfriends/wifes jewlary.

The grille pony is just plastic, so you should be able to paint over that no problem...a primer, some clears, your finals coats, whatever.

The emblems require more care as stated above. I would guess you'd want to prime them first, then add coats of color and clear. Here's a thread from moddedmustangs where one of the members blacked out the fender emblems...they're some pics in it.

He did 1 coat of primer, 3 coats of color, and 4 coats of clear.

they make primer for different surfaces, choose the right one. Painted front items chips quickly and easily due to spray paint is not as durable as powdercoat etc

You might check and see if they make a black grill horse if it doesn't cost to much it might be better because the paint might last longer

American Muscle has one for $60...a tad bit pricey. If you can get away with painting it I'd go that route, it'd be much cheaper. If only those grill horses weren't that cheap plastic, you could bake the paint on so it wouldn't chip so easily.

Re: painting grille stang + emblems black

I was looking at pics on American Muscle. They do look sharp, I was half tempted to consider one for the black/blue scheme since I have the grill delete (not installed), but $60 is steep.
I could take the pony I got from the delete kit and paint it, **** it up, and buy another pony and still be less than the black one, lol.

Re: painting grille stang + emblems black

I don't think you can use it for the grille delete. It doesn't have the attaching clip and screw holes. I guess you could practice on the stock one in the corral.

Anything you paint the pony will chip. I had a black/grey flamed pony on my V6 and it got chipped fairly easily with normal driving. Just keep that in mind. It did look mighty cool though.

Re: painting grille stang + emblems black

Use a scotch brite to scuff up the surface and make sure to use lots of clearcoat.
