Taking stripes off the car

Hello All,

I am pondering the idea of removing my beige stripes for some black ones. Is there anything I have to worry about? I know to use a heat gun or blow dryer and carefully remove them. What about unevenness in the paint. There is a lot of sun in South Texas and will you be able to tell that I removed stripes? I don't want it to look kinda two-tone-ish where I removed them. Also what about wax lines where the stripe meets the paint?

Yes, you would def. be able to tell you took them off. The paint under the stripes is going to be so much brighter than the rest of the paint.

Even if it is dark paint like Crimson Red? Is there anything I can do besides repainting? I am planning on getting the same style of stripes so I am guessing it will cover up that area with no problem then, right?

Correct, if you go back with the same style of stripes in the same place you shouldn't have a problem. And yes, even crimson red will still show the lightness/darkness of the sun's beating.

Aw now...the beige stripes are the true 40th anniversary package.

But..to each his own. Make sure you get a set of replacement stripes that are exactly the same cut as you might see some difference, especially in a red car.

Ford doesn't make the beige stripes anymore but I think black or white stripes will look a lot better then the beige. Also, the previous owner had an accident that carfax failed to report, which cause the the stripes on the on the hood to be sliver/beige (silver in shade/beige in direct sun). I am going to get a guy in San Antonio to custom make them for me

Removed a set of black ones from my Yellow car. The only difference was where the car had been touched up. They had been on the car 3 years. Where they are really doesn't fade out.

I wouldnt screw up the anniv package you have~ those stripes that are on it are HARD to find and will hurt resale value.

Re: Taking stripes off the car

I'd have to agree, it'd probably be better to keep them on for resale since the car has an actual 40th anniversary package, but it's your car, so what matters is what you want to do with it.

Are there any other black accents on the car right now, or do you plan on adding some?
I only ask because the black stripes would seem random without any other accents. Even with some accents it'd look odd since the wheels are brushed and have the beige accents in them too.

I think the black scheme: black rims, tinted lights, black fuel door, window tint, rear blackout panel, etc. would look good with that red.

Re: Taking stripes off the car

i had the silver running stripes on mine, and i replaced them with black. i did have a difference in paint underneath, but i got the stripes that were cut to match perfectly & i have no problem.

Re: Taking stripes off the car

stripe removal involves a heat gun and a lot of time and the paint may look different if the paint was allowed to fade
