Speaker options

because i am almost constantly playing music, i know my pioneer speakers are going to go sooner than later.

ford has graciously given us 6x8 speakers. Is it possible to make some 6x9s work in both the front and the back? if so, how?

Re: Speaker options

sounds like easy work for the front... but the back... well, they were a big enough pain to put in back there with the correct size. dremeling in the rear sounds like a huge pain.

Re: Speaker options

Yeah the rear would be a pain. If you do decide to go that route though, keep us updated as I might want to try it.

Ill be the first to tell you...you pay for what you get. If you're happy with them though, by all means get them,

Re: Speaker options

Yah I agree with 19Delta...but as he said, each to his own.

It is definitely possible to put in 6x9's...if you have the resources and money, you can do anything, lol. For example, this guy put Mach 1000 subs in the rear seat area...

Re: Speaker options

i agree too. but that is not how it is in this case. These are Kenwood speakers we are talking about. They are excellent speakers. I'd be able to get a deal on them because they are overstocked and going for cheap. that is how i got my current speakers. sadly, 6x8 speakers are not usually overstocked...

Re: Speaker options

You want to fit something this size -> 0 in a space that is this size -> 0 You can sit there with a dremel and grind or sand away at the edges and keep test fitting (or just go at it and not care for a nicer fit) but I wouldn't think of it. 6x8" can be found a lot easier than you think you just have to know where to look.

For instance Infinity (JBL) make 6x8" components, Pioneer makes 6x8" and I believe Kenwood also makes a 6x8" size. Alpine's 5x7" will sometimes be bracketed for a 6x8" hole.

Try Amazon, Crutchfield, Best Buy or Google for those 6x8".

Worst case is you can pick up a 5x7" to 6x8" bracket and fit in 5x7" insteads.

its not really that 6x8s are hard to find, its just that they dont appear often as overstocked items at the place i can get them for cheap. (im talking $5-30 cheap)

but this seems like too much just for some 6x9s. ill just keep a sharp look out for the right size speakers.

Yeah a buddy of mine who works at best buy invited me to be a part of the bestbuy employee auction site that sells
overstocked items. Since employees get car stereo stuff so
cheap they hardly ever bid on the site for them.

Re: Speaker options

Kicker makes a good, direct replacement speaker set that are used in Shelby's. I bought mine from Stang-aholics.com
or they can be directly ordered from Shelby's web site.
They are somewhat spendy, but can be bought piece by piece. So far I have replaced all my door speakers (Shaker 1000) with them and they sound GREAT !
Good luck
As stated above.....the backs area a beeeech to install
