Re: help building an audio system

What kinda system are you wanting to build? Are you just wanting subs or do you want to do an entire system. For just subs you'll need a set of rca's, a remote wire from the stereo, a power wire, ground wire, speaker wire (all this assuming you have an aftermarket cd player, if not you will need a rf modulator to convert the normal speaker output to rca form for the amp), you will need an amp, sub(s), some sort of an enclosure. If you are wanting to build your own enclosure you will need wood (whatever you choose to build it with) or fiberglass or whatever the box will be made of. You will need either a good jigsaw or a router would be the easiest way to make the speaker opening. Another way to ensure a good sounding system is to make sure you follow the speaker directions as far as cubic foot enclosure requirements for the speaker. They pay engineers good money to figure out what size box and what dimensions sound the best with that certain speaker.

Re: help building an audio system

What size amp you want to go with will vary the size of the wiring and hence the price. Expect to spend 50-75 dollars for a good set of wires, including shielded rca's to make the sound better.

As far as what type of wood, I always used a heavy wood for the resonance, not sure what people like to use now, I switched to fiberglass.

You could always bedliner the box, it will give it a texture and I like the look of the bedliner if you match the colors correctly.

Re: help building an audio system

i would say that those subs won't reach thier maximum potential with just one amp between the 2

I would find (2) 10" Subs that are Dual Voice Coil and 2ohm instead of 4 so that you can use that amp and get 400x1 (200rms into each sub)
