doesnt really matter.
if you lose FP youre gonna lean out, which will show on the EGT as the gauge spikes to the "Uber ****ing Hot" range, and also will show on the A/F as the "Uber ****ing Lean" range. True, it is another great gauge, but not one i would put in a A-Pillers arsenal, probably somewhere off to the side, like a dash pod or whatever.
but an EGT can show if other things are wrong. if the tune itself is just a bit on the lean side, you might not be able to tell on the wideband during the first few quick gears, but once you get into 4th or 5th and things start getting heated for long durations, that EGT will rise alot faster than you can glance at your a/f at 150mph. or if the timing is too much and youre getting alot of knock/predetonation, also will show up on the EGT.
plus EGT's come in handy during long voyages. even when not in full throttle, if your EGT's start to spike too high during normal driving or long term cruising, itll be able to tell you somethings wrong, something that might not be a fuel delivery issue (which would cancel out a/f and fp gauges). a dsm of a local was driving down from sacramento when on the freeway his EGT went from the middle to the extreme range, he immediately pulled off, shut down, and towed home. his oil pump gave out, and seeing his egt's jump from lack of lubrication saved his motor. a FP and AF gauge would have been worthless in this situation, however he did invest in a oil pressure gauge later that week.
