Speaker recommendations

Does anyone have any advice about a speaker to replace my lows. I know I can't use 3 ways, but will 2 ways work? And which brand is preferred?

Re: Speaker recommendations

two ways will work... are you looking to get a lot of bass? I personally like Boston Acoustic and MB quart. Corey will come in here and praise infinities 6x9s, but seeing that you have a vert... I doubt youll be putting 6x9s in there.

Re: Speaker recommendations

Not a lot of bass. More is preferred but also better sound quality. I was looking at Infinity but I wanted to get some other imput.

Re: Speaker recommendations

Many brands are good, but I've always been a fan of ECLIPSE speakers, and thought they sounded pretty good in my Integra, but I also haven't kept up with car audio in a while.

ECLIPSE by Fujitsu Ten

BLASPHEMY!

You cant put Eclipse anything in an Integra!

Just like putting Type-R subs in a Eclipse is also illegal, though i would be hung for treason if anyone found out i had some at one time...........

i may sound like a cheap ***, but ive always liked Pioneer stuff. Infinity makes great component setups, as do Kicker, MB Quartz, Eclipse and sadly Audiobahn.

HAHHAHA 6X8's dont have anywhere near the bass as a 6X9 but you are right a difficult fit for a Vert. Any of the big names like MB, BA, Infinity, Polk, Eclipse, and Alipne well be nice upgrade. It is really about cost and your personal hearing taste. Most audiophile people will tell you 6 1/2 are better than 6X8
s but you will need a adapter. Personally a set of Infinity Kappa's 6.5 or 6X8's will give you the best bang for the buck

INFINITY 62.7i
6.5" 2 Way 255W Kappa Series Speakers

INFINITY 682.7cf
6" x 8" (5" x 7") 2 Way 300W
Kappa Series Speakers

Re: Speaker recommendations

i currently have pioneer 6.5 3 ways in there now but the stupid factory amp won't support the additional highs in the rear. but i do know that 6.5 will fit without an adaptor. but i will check out the infinity line.

Actually you have 2 ways in the back now. They are rather uninspiring and crude 2 ways but they are 2 ways. Any manufacturer 2 ways will work. You just need to find the most efficent. The higher the Sensitivity of the speaker the more efficent it will be at lower power. so find a speaker above a sensitivity of 92db or above.

Re: Speaker recommendations

I see. I thought they were just lows with mids above them. And do most of the better brands run 94db and above?

Most good speakers are above 90db but Infinity and great speakers are 92db and above. The Sensitivity db on speakers actually quoted in most product information. The 2 comparisons below are Infinity. Thge top ones are Kappa's and ar very good but they really would require a seperate high power amp to really get the advantage out of them. The ones on the bottom are reference and they are rock solid and would preform much better with good sensitivity on stock equipment.

Re: Speaker recommendations

I think I might give those INFINITY 682.7cf a shot. I see they are 2ohms. Is there any special wiring required to make the amp see a 2ohm load?

But if you are underpower and use the stock radio and amp you want a higher sensitivity. Not that your system sounds bad because I dont know. The pick of speakers is to the ear of the beholder. Everyones ear is different and what sounds good to one sound off to others. It is the nature of the beast.

Re: Speaker recommendations

If you are running off deck power I highly recommend an efficient speaker, not one that is rated for more than 100 watts peak.. I am running Memphis Car Audio M Class coaxial 5x7's in my explorer and they are the best sounding deck powered speakers I have ever heard, and I do this for a living. Efficiency is key to bass response with low power, not some ridiculous peak ratings, like the 8000 Watt system in my Cobra..

Memphis warranty is Lifetime too, just most dealers won't tell you that, but it can't be bought online to carry a warranty...
I literally just trashed a pair of 6x8 Infinity Kappas because they sounded like dog ****.

You evidently had a bad set of Kappa's because they dont sound like dog**** unless something was wrong with them. I am not here to say Infinity is the end all best speakers on earth but to say they are dog **** is irresponsible and utterly rediculous

Infinity and JBL are owned By the Harmon Company. They are the leaders in speaker innovation. Go to any Music studio and see what speakers are in the studios when they are recording. JBL's.
