Re: FM transmitter

I had a FM transmitter on the Sirius radio in the Formula Firebird I was driving and it sucked bad. Some parts of town I would get a radio station instead of the signal from the satellite.

Re: FM transmitter

i wired my ipod with the Harmon Kardon plug and play. it's an Fm transmitter that can be wired or wireless. i got mine hardwired and don't have any interferrence in Houston. a little white noise, but that's it. if you go wireless, all bets are off. wired is the way to go.

Re: FM transmitter

Hey will, what headunit do you have right now? You might have an accessory plug already in the back that you can connect to.
To be honest, you will run into some problems with a FM transmitter just like scratched cd's, and it will probably piss you off just as much.

Re: FM transmitter

which one are you talking about? i had the transpod fm which is wireless and it was alright if you didn't mind looking down to see what was on screen. with what i have now, the screen is right behind my steering wheel on the right is at the perfect level. and the controls are right in front of my shifter so there is no reaching.

Re: FM transmitter

Go buy one from a retail chain, save the reciept, try it out for a couple of days, and if you don't like it, take it back.

Re: FM transmitter

It all depends on the deck/car.

It sucked in my GT with the mach460. It worked awesome with our Tahoe, Neon, Thunderbird (all those with stock decks) and my cobra with a Alpine deck. I gave it to my sister as well as the iPod, **** i just realized i pretty much give my sister everything (she got the tbird too). ****ing freeloader.

anyways yeah. buy it and take it back if it doesnt work.

Re: FM transmitter

so far so good. it carries a lot of bass. i had to tune the head unit down a bit so there wasn't so much distortion. i play it loud. but it is a very clean install. a little white noise but no interference. in houston, i expected more. i'll try and get a pic on here tonight or tomorrow. you were wondering where they would put the screen. well they had to screw into the instrument panel bezel, but they asked first and i would rather have it there then have two holes in my dash. it's to the right of my steering column. and the controls are behind the shifter in front of the first cupholder.

For some reason, auto-makers in the 80's didn't think you needed cup-holders. My '88 Camaro and the '84 Cavalier didn't have any either.

I seem to find them if you fold down the glove box, on the opposite side of that door theres two little round areas for cups, as if that would actually hold them there

maybe people of the 80's actually focused on driving while driving :dunno: seems to be a rarity these days.

Re: FM transmitter

best buy hard wired it through my antenna. it has a brain that plugs into the antenna jack on the head unit and the antenna plugs into the brain. best thing to do is call and find out. that's what i did.

I have something very similar for my XM reciever. Sounds ALOT better than a "wireless" FM transmitter.

Re: FM transmitter

yea, i have the one that plugs right into the top of the ipod. it was ok for a while. but then all of the static was too much for me. i was lucky n got a stang with a 6 disc changer so i dont have to worry about it. but i say in this case, wireless FTL.

Re: FM transmitter

What kind of head unit do you have?

I've got a Pioneer deck in both the car and the truck. They've got the the CD changer plug in the back that you plug Pioneer's iPod adapters into. Then I run the iPod connection wire from the adapter behind the dash and into the glove box and you'd never know that any of it's there. I'd never think of doing it any other way because FM transmitter suck big donkey balls. With the hardwire setup, the iPod stays charged all the time and you never have to worry about interference, which I can guarantee you'll get with any FM transmitter on the market no matter how good anyone says they are.

If you can hardwire your iPod setup, do it because it'll save you so much time and aggravation in the long run. I'd never tell anyone to use a transmitter unless they had no other choice.
