Need Opinions...

I'm torn between the two. Not leaning one way or the other. So I could use some objective opinions.

If the majority is to lose em, please tell me the best way for me to remove them.

Remove 'em. Makes it look a lot better. I got rid of mine about 2 years ago.

luckily i have a b.s. at my disposal. if there is a faded line, i can take it to one of my old painters and have them color buff it out. he's the same one that will paint my mirrors as soon as i take the damn things off. but so far i am leaning towards taking the guards off. comparing one with (mine) and one without, the other does look cleaner. now the question is, how do i take them off?

Re: Need Opinions...

Take them things off. Wait for a fairly warm day and let the car sit in the sun.

I've taken them off with just my fingers on 2 different cars. Never had to use anything else.

Just start at one end and slowly pry up with your finger tips without hitting the door paint and it should start pulling off. Now just pull until the whole thing comes off.

You can get the residue off by either using a clay bar or some real patience with your fingers.

Or...if you'll come up here I"ll do it in 5 minutes while you watch.

Re: Need Opinions...

Haha...

One way I've heard to get it started is use some fishing line or dental floss. Just put it between the door and the piece, there is an 1/8th inch or so of 3m adhesive, that's all that holds the things in place.

If you'll put this against the door guard and pull up slightly it should come right off man.

id recommend the fishing line method as well. also, have a buddy use a heat gun on the area about a inch ahead of where you are cutting/sawing with the line. the process will take mere seconds that way. also if any residual sticky is left, the heat gun will come in handy for that too, it turns it into sticky gum like and you can just work it off with your finger. im sure someone is going to get aroused from that last sentence btw.

remove them, they look like trash on there. At least on the 94-98 they followed the body lines instead of like the 99-04 where the ruin it.

Re: Need Opinions...

I already told you how to remove them.

take a hair dryer put it on low go over the area and pull off.

If youve waxed the car you'll have residue just go over the area with wax and such and in most cases the "line" will just disappear. if not a clay bar takes care of that issue

and for the love of god get rid of them

Good to hear things went well with the removal. Nevermind the cleaner appearance, you'll like not having to clean and wax around them too

Re: Need Opinions...

the door guards also called body side mouldings. if you look on the door, it's that thin little strip below the handle. about midway down.

I didn't know what the heck he was talking about either, until I read the title of the poll: "Help me choose the fate of my door guards."

I didn't know those were called door guards...specially since they don't guard anything since they do not stick out past the body lines anyhow.

I was looking for the plastic ones that go on the edge of the door in case you open it into a car or a wall or something...not the ghey styling thing ford threw on there just to make it look different than the previous year. lol

We've also got paved roads, flushing toilets and these really fancy things called "telephones".

Ah...I see. Makes sense now.

Would you mind if we sent thugsketball back to you though? You can send us back the the flushing or telephone technologies...we'll let you decide on that one.

Na, you guys didn't invent the flush toilet or paved roads, so I don't need to give anything back.

There's other inventions out there, but I'll give you your choice: you can have the Canadarm, insulin, the pacemaker, or G-suits for your airforce pilots.....
