2004 Mach 6 disk changer

Is the mach 460 in a '02 the same as the mach in a '04?

Re: 2004 Mach 6 disk changer

the 04 offered a mach 1000 system so I do believe the head units are pretty much the same for the base non mach 1000 setup

I know there are minor differences in buttons and options. I would verify with Ford if the radios have model numbers (dodge has 3 digit codes that you must match up on the front faces of their radios) and which will work with what.

What do you mean? It is repairable...although I don't know how.. They manage to refurbish all these radios. If you check with a local Ford dealer they may be able to set you up with getting yours refrubished.

Do you have a cd stuck in it?

If so take a butter knife and lightly press down on the cd in the door to remove it while pressing the eject button.

Not sure what else to tell you on this though.

Re: 2004 Mach 6 disk changer

I currently have that same problem with my mach 460 6 disk. The radio portion works fine, but when you start the car up, the cd message reads "cd error". My guess in your case would be a stuck cd or if there's no cd, the stage selector within the unit hung up or something to that degree.

I tried the butter knife technique and was unsuccessful. Hell, I tore the whole unit out and took it apart...thought I fixed the problem with the cd stages, put it back together (which was a real *****) and it still didn't work.

I checked with my Ford dealership and they will do a swap plus ~$315.

I'm too cheap for that and usually use my Ipod, so I haven't bothered with it.

I'd try the butterknife technique and see if that works, hopefully it will free up whatever is stuck.

If that doesn't work, your next best bet is to either remove the unit or swap it completely with a refurbished/new one. It's unfortunate, but that's the price of having an in dash cd changer...issues like this happen to a lot of mach 460/1000 owners.

Re: 2004 Mach 6 disk changer

Also, to answer your original question, the Mach 1000 was available on the premium v6's and premium GT's in starting in 02 and was available until 04.

The head unit is essentially the same with the only difference being the "Mach 1000" button that activates the rear trunk mounted woofers and amps. The replacement button for that on the Mach 460 is the "mute" button for phone calls, etc.

As far as compatablility from year to year...as SaleenFiend said, check with the Ford dealership on that...some radio units like the Mach systems had their own run with yearly digit codes, and a different year car might not accept the radio.
