Cool Sequential Taillights Mod

94-04 Mustang sequential tailights discussion:
Deciding to change you turn signals to a sequential set up leaves you with many options today. I have a '97 and when I first installed the splice kit, it appeared to actually look like a "trailing" flash because the blinkers were so fast. I tried to make things better by purchasing the plug n play harness kit. Because the relay flashed so quickly, it still gave the effect of trailing (one light lit, #2, and then#3) when true sequential would have the first lamp light up and stay lit as the second lights up and then the third with all three lit at once before sequencing again.
I solved the problem by finding a turn signal relay that slowed down the flash rate about 50% giving it the look of the newer Mustangs sequential display. Now looks fantastic. It works with both a splice kit or the harness kit you can get.
Lastly, now they sell LED sequential kits that function at the correct rate while you change out your 3157 lamps with the LED lamps provided.
One last thing I should mention is that I have found that if you install 3157 lamps with thick filaments, you get a brighter and longer illumination.(Silverstar)OR(NightHawk) or on a lesser note any "long life" lamp.
HOPE ALL THIS HELPS AND IS INTERESTING!~Any Questions & I'll Try & Help.

I got the relay from autotrix.net and it works great. Something so little really made my day because the flash rate on the newer Mustangs were slower and more pronounced. Like I said, it now flashes slow and in sequence w/the first light bulb staying lit while 2nd and 3rd light up. autotrix has a forum and everything. When I e-mailed them with questions, the owner responded within minutes.
The cost was $25.00 i believe. I am glad I found it. It also functions with LED bulbs-no resisters needed.
I am now looking for a new/used multifunction switch (turnsignal lever) to buy if anyone has one laying around.

Re: Sequential Taillights Mod

Yes...a video would be great as this is something I'm thinking to add to my Mustang and would love to see what this looks like.

Thanks

I bought my kit from your guy and haven't seen the need to swap out the relay yet. But, I did buy the "slow" flash kit...so maybe that's why.

Re: Sequential Taillights Mod

I will try and get a video posted. I have never used the video portion of the new camera except for by accident and posting a video will be a first- but I'll try.

I don't know that much about the new kits. He only had one kit available back when I did these.

I did install a set in a friend's 97 GT and we ended up changing his flasher as well because they were too fast. It might be a SN95 thing over new edge even with the new kits.

Re: Sequential Taillights Mod

Heres a vid of mine. It is just the plug and play kit. I like it, but I think I might want to slow it down.

Yes, the relay slows that down by 50% That is the same speed my kit used to flash.
It's raining tonight so I'll post a video in between clouds ASAP

Re: Sequential Taillights Mod

Sequential harness with sequential relay. Not the best video, view-wise but it stopped raining for 10 minutes. Here~ It will not download the video??..I will keep trying- I made 2 videos. Tried downloading 10 different ways. Will try again later.
