Pretty good actually. I have a single alpine type-R 12"(I highly recommend this for the price) and an alpine 500 watt rms amp.

So yes, you will need a separate amp to run the sub.

Do you think two 10" subs would sound good

Definitely. I would've done two type-r 10"s if I would've had the room. They'll be more punchy than a single 12"... Won't hit as deep as a 12" though...

I ran two type r 12's in mine for a while, great sounding subs. Now I have two 15" kicker cvrs, they don't live up to my experience with the alpines.

I pulled the 15's and put in one Rockford 12" P3 today. The amp is a Rockford t300.2. I'm not nearly as loud now but I regained space and have a fuller more rounded sound. Also using kenwood 6x8's and the factory head unit.
