Custom Paint

I was thinking of getting a custom paint job for my 01 sixer. The last guy who had it got in a wreck, got the body work done nicely, then put a piece of **** paint job on it. Just wondering if y'all had any pics of nicely done Stangs where I could get some ideas?

Re: Custom Paint

A high bill is expected with most but connections work very well. I was just trying to get some ideas of what I could do. I've look all over yahoo and google and nothing has really appealed to me that much.

Re: Custom Paint

you don't want to overdo it too...stick to one color, maybe add stripes, but you don't want it to get too busy

Re: Custom Paint

Go with a 2 stage paint and leave it at that.

BMW has some sick colors.

Look at some of theirs and maybe go down to a local paint shop and just flip through some of their books and finished photos and see if theres a color you like.

When I hadmine repainted I stuck with a color that was pretty close to original because I didnt want to have to pay the extra needed to get the door sills and engine bay sprayed to match.

I had them put down the original color and then a layer of clear with a blue flake in it, followed by 5 more coats of just clear. Its awesome when you see your car for the first time and it looks brand new.

Re: Custom Paint

Why is everybody so against a true "custom" paint? Is it because of price or other reasons?

Re: Custom Paint

you have to find the fine line between looking good and going over the top~ its hard to do... this is why its not just how much money you spend on a car that determines how nice it is.

I understand this and plan to make the car still look clean yet still flowing.

If ANYBODY has some pictures with some kind of idea of what I'm talking about please post.

I like the two tone but I just want something different.

I'll be honest. This is the limit.

Re: Custom Paint

for me........

my 02 GT aka "Ellie" was pretty much as far as i would consider going. Custom colors (dupont #44490 "Pepper Grey Metallic" and #44419 "Metallic Black" IE GT500e paint codes) - Roush Stage3 Kit - Saleen S281 spoiler - Anthracite FR500's.

problem with Ellie was, the paintjob absolutely sucked. I payed a decent amount for a decent job, but i got **** in return. had it not been so bad, i likely would never have thought to upgrade (ie never driven a cobra) and i would still have her. I still love the look the car had, it was my dream to make a GT500 Eleanor rendition in a 99-04 style stang (the roush stage3 kit IMO is a perfect counterpart to a GT500e kit). However the paint is pulling off from the urethane pieces (shoddy prep and no flex additive), the hood area that was resprayed was super dull, the doortops (the flat spot before the window jamb) show oxidation. the underside lip of the wheel wells were cracking because they were not prepped. just piss-poor stuff like that. Had the shop done a decent job i wouldve told everyone to go to them like i was told by many, but since they sucked, everyone i know gets warned.

Custom paint isnt as important as the way the car is prepared for it. 90% of the end result is from Prep, if prep sucks, the end result will.

If/When i have to repaint Ruby, it will be a custom color, likely a deep burnt orange with a slight amount of red-ish in it, and possibly two tone with the cabin area up being black (like the above super badass red/black two-tone job). I love Redfire but i think it needs just a bit more orange hue in it to really set off the "fire" part of it.

PS. im much more happier with my stockish looking cobra than a kitted GT. i wish i spend the money on the GT to make it faster, left the outside stock, done a mach1 lip and fr500's and been done with it, and spent the rest on heads/cams and supercharger.

Re: Custom Paint

im not into all the busy tacky crap. I think a car looks best when its clean and not to busy... having 10000 things going on in all colors and **** just messes with it. It can be doen and made to look great~ but its not easy. I think a nice clean car looks just as good in the end anyway.
