Brand new speakers sound bad when played more than 5 minutes at high volume

I just replaced my stock speakers in my 93 mustang with Polk 5x7 component speakers in the rear Polk 6.5s in the door and infinity 3.5 in the dash and they sound great until you turn them up for a while once they play the first two songs after that they sound terrible. I also have a pioneer head that is only one year old.
P.s when I first installed the 5x7 they shorted out in the wheel well but I taped over the connections and I don't have anymore problems with them

You may need to get yourself a 4 channel amplifier for you speakers... Most head units supply your speakers with 24 to 26 watts rms even tho it says 50 watts X 4.. If you get a seperate amp for your speakers you will be supplying your speakers with a good amount of power from 50watts rms to 75rms which will make your speakers come to life... Look into a 4chnl amp and you will be satisfied.. Head units are good for Listening but when you crank they will start to distort at higher volumes cause the power rating is low
