Replacing mach 460 head unit?

I have a 2001 mustang with the Mach 460 system. I was wondering if there's any pros or cons to replacing it with an aftermarket head unit.. I know I would lose my 6 cd changer.. Which if I had a input I would use my iPod.. Any thoughts?

If I were you I remove all o the stock crap and go full on aftermarket from head unit to speakers, including amp(s).

Did it in my 94 cobra. I ran all of my own power lines and speaker wire. It was loud as hell and sounded awesome.

I don't have a lot of experience. I will be replacing my front two door speakers.. But from what I here the Mach sound system holds some pretty good rep.. I'm not looking to blow out any ear drums..

Yeah if you have the cash and can do it your self I'd go full system. At least replace the speakers. You could have a $700 deck but if your speaker are the cheap *** cardboard it's gonna sound bad.

At the very least replace all of the speakers. The factory speakers are pretty much garbage o be honest. If you can change out all the speakers you will notice a marked improvement even with the stock head unit.

The 460 ones are different then stock tho.. And I won't spend more then 400 on a head unit..

The Mach 460 actually sounds pretty good to me. It's a better sound system than our 03 Corvette and 07 Sonata, the only downside is the head unit that seems to break after a while.

You could always get a aftermarket 6 cd changer, or just a aftermarket radio with an aux port. Pioneer premier has always been my choose. Love them never break on my and I pound my systems always have always will and they have never failed me. It all matters if you have all compatible and correct flowing equipment. Good luck

Put a new JVC HU in my GT for the same reason, Ipod use. Check out Crutchfield, they send you all the wiring harnesses for free, go with a double din unit, looks cleaner than a single.

Go with something that has bluetooth, it makes listening to your library very simple.
