2014 base mustang stereo options?

I am looking for some way to make the sound system better. I changed out the front speakers, but these systems are horrible! Any suggestions on the best route to take? Head unit? Amp? Sub and amp? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Head unit 100%. I changed all four speakers, which helped, but didn't unleash their potential until I changed the head unit. I have no amp or subs yet, but I'm extremely happy with the sound my new HU produces.

Been looking around. I've been looking at kenwood and alpine DVD receivers because I can control the ac from the receiver. Anyone know if those work without sync

There are two routes to go. Get an adapter plate that has built in AC controls or buy a unit that has the controls in it (and you'll still have to buy an adapter plate). I plan on getting the adapter plate with controls and a decent head unit. My car does not have sync so I am not worried about that.
