Shaker audio subwoofer

I recently purchased a 2011 GT premium with the shaker stereo but it doesn't have the sub in the trunk. Can I just pick one up on eBay and have it installed or is there more I am missing. I.e additional amp etc?

Just go to a local stereo shop. Have them install a single 10" and appropriate amp. They can hook it all up to your stock head unit.

Thank you. Would they likely just hook up a single channel amp to power the sub or a multi channel amp to power the sub and all the speakers?

I wouldn't add any more power to the door speakers, unless they are aftermarket.

Hey. Let us know how much the whole thing costs. I also have a premium without a sub, but I was thinking about getting a better aftermarket sub with a special box that fits in the corner of my GT. My total would be about 500$ without install

Hey Brewcity, thanks for posting and welcome to the forums. Sorry about the troll, they're here too, but luckily Trevor's antics aren't that common around here. Most people know how to act.

I'll be very interested to read your follow up on this as I'm in the same spot. Had considered the "plug and play" upgrade (Shelby/Kicker) but woof... spendy at over a grand. Curious if a decent sub can be added for a decent price (and what the end result would look like).

Look forward to seeing any follow up.

I just replaced my front speakers with JL C5's and the Shleby Kicker 8" subs. I don't have it all set up yet but so far it sounds pretty good. I'm giving the subs around 120 watts. You have to be careful with set up because I can already tell the doors will vibrate too much. I'm going to set them up as more of a "mid woofer" than a " sub woofer".

I have polks front and backs.. with factory subs. It's a pretty good setup to be honest; a rear sub would definitely make it a sick all round system. Now granted an aftermarket deck would greatly improve the sound - making it more clear and crisp. But it's the $250-300 dash kit and a bunch of adaptors that's holding me back.. too much cash lol

I agree on the head unit. I want to keep it stock and just add the amp and rear sub. Where can I find the Shelby kicker sub's

If you're not going to amp the Shelby Kickers don't do it. I tried it at first and it didn't make a difference. Its not worth the 140.00.

I bought mine here...

Hey SS, when you talk about amping the Shelby Kickers do you mean the door woofers?

I see where there's a kit to add a trunk mounted sub, and that looked like it comes with an amp, but is it possible to add an amp for the existing speakers?

And as a side note, has anyone gone with components up front and yanking out the 6x8s from the back completely? Bazinga?

1. Yes Im talking about amping the door woofers. They will do much better with power. Its a pain to run the wire thru the doors though...

2. Those all in one units (sub and amp built in) usually are very expensive and dont sound that great. Yes you can add an amp for existing speakers. Do you have the stock HU? If so you need a hi/lo convertor.

3. Yes Im in the process of adding JL C5 comps upfront and Ill be removing the rear speakers. Actually Ill leave them there but they wont get any power.

You dont want to add a comp set with a stock HU,its just not worth it. To get grerat sounding audio it costs money and its not usually cheap. The stock HU is pretty much garbage. If youre going to leave the stock HU just add a sub and amp and you'll be happy.

That sounds like a plan, thanks SS. I have the Raxiom nav unit so I'll not be replacing the HU anytime soon. I think I'll just add the amp and sub. Would just love to get a touch clearer highs out of the front as it sounds a bit muddy, but I'm not much of an audiophile so I think I'll probably just get used to it.

I installed a Clarion EQ between the head unit and aftermarket amp and that made a huge difference. I used this Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future for the interface.

Dang guys, this thread is chock full of solutions on a budget. Believe me going scorched earth is clearly the way to megasound bliss, but I like all the info on how to tweak what's there without breaking the bank.

Can I ask you why you're selling? Are you getting a better box?

The W6 is an awesome sub. I'm feeding it about 500 watts and it pounds. It's more than most people will ever want or need. So yes it's plenty...

It sounds great. I'm going to need to play with the levels a bit to get it to exactly where I want it. I'm very pleased with it.

Don't know if this thread is still alive but I got a question with wiring. I got sub amp and was wondering what kind of wiring works best. Copper is expensive af, any good solutions for a guy on a budget?
