Mustang ACM programming via IDS enabling options

So I've been researching enabling options via the ACM build as data by programming it with an IDS system.

Terms:

ACM = audio control module (aka: head unit, nav unit, "nav brick", etc.)

IDS is the software and VCM is the hardware used to program nearly evey part of your car including the ACM.

Its the actual Ford Dealer system that is used anytime you need anything done to your car, a PCM reflash, Add or change any module such as ABS, Factory Stereo, etc. Its also used to change axle ratios, tire size, etc. It programs the PATS system. All diagnostics (reading/clearing codes) and troubleshooting, Basically anything you take it to the dealer for can be done without a trip to the dealer if you take the time to learn the system same as a Ford tech would.

The system costs over $3000, but you can buy them from China for less than $400. Just have to make sure you buy a quality version from the same manufacture as the original, as many of the "clones" don't have all the electronics of the original and therfore will fail to program a number of the modules.

Example of VCM clone: http://www.adkautodiagnostic.com/for...stic-p-81.html

Examples for uses of ACM data:

- enabling an upgraded steering wheel with more controls, ie: you buy a Boss Alcantara or GT500 steering wheel which has some additional controls that your base model didn't have

- enabling a back up camera

If I had access to an IDS system I think I could figure out how to program it myself. Basically, you need to find the VIN# of a car that has all of the same options as yours + the option you want.... for example: back up camera (its ok if it has back up sensors too).

You can double check the options by going here:
http://www.inventory.ford.com/servic...cker.pdf?vin=x
replace the x with the actual vin#.

Then you can download the ACM build as data from Motorcraft's website here:
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/

Compare yours and the other cars it should be all the same except for probably one value.

Then program your car with the new ACM build as data. Write down / print out yours as back up, in case something goes wrong and you need to restore your old data.

I've been researching the ACM data and was considering putting together a database which shows you what to do / program for various options. ie: like adding a steering wheel with controls, you have to change section 01, row 2 to xxxx xxxx xxxx, etc.

Here's some extensive listing of ACM data from 2011-2012 cars: 727 = ACM data

2011-12 Mustang ACM section 1

I suspect this section represents the steering wheel. I base that on the fact that a Boss 302 and a Base V6 or GT have identical ACM data EXCEPT section 1. The only difference (audio) between a Boss 302 and a Base Mustang is the steering wheel.

Base (V6 or GT):

727-01-01 0044 D08B E4B3
727-01-02 0435

Premium (V6 or GT w/Shaker 500):

727-01-01 060C 908B 64C1
727-01-02 0C3D

Premium GT w/Shaker 1000 (confirmed only for 2012):

727-01-01 268C 908B 6461
727-01-02 0C3D

Boss 302:

727-01-01 0044 908B 64F3
727-01-02 0435

GT500 (2011):

727-01-01 2140 8C29 80C6
727-01-02 0888 C1

GT500 (2012):

727-01-01 2140 8C29 80C6
727-01-02 0888 C081

2011-12 Mustang ACM sections 2 and 3.

These sections were identical for every VIN checked, regardless of model.

727-02-01 2E5F
727-03-01 1446

2011-12 Mustang ACM sections 4 thru 7.

All except GT500:

727-05-02 765B 572F 0793

2012 GT500:

727-10-01 081A 3C02 16B5
727-10-02 1F02 161F 4BE1
727-10-03 0913 0913 33AC
727-10-04 7308 1AD7

I'd love to build a database / spreadsheet that explains all of possible values, this would be of HUGE benefit to many people. You could get the necessary build as data in hand in advance then go to dealership and ask them to program it as you're requesting.

If you have access to your ACM build as data via IDS etc. Could you please post your VIN, brief decription of car & options, and build as data.

Ex:
Vin: 1VT324208374982789

Descriptin: 2013 GT Premium, with Sync, Shaker 500

ACM data: bunch of lines like this: 727-xx-xx xxxx xxxx

I believe, the bolded item is the back up camera section.

The top red lines (section 1) also seem to control the steering wheel information too.

so if you want to program an option for your car that you've added manually, like I added a backup camera that I wanted the stock Nav unit to display on the screen (with out adding a "LockPick" device)

Find a car's VIN# with all of the same options as yours PLUS the one option you're trying to add.
Copy its Build As data from here:
Code:
www.vrep.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/vdirs/asbuilt/abreq.asp?vin=XXXXXXXXXXXXX&Vehicle=&Year=&VR_Quickstart
(replace XXXXXXXXXXXX's with the VIN)

Do the same for your car's VIN. Compare the 2 sets of data.

You can download & save both buildas files. Keep yours as back up in case something doesn't work correctly.

Find the difference(s). Generally all the things people are adding (steering wheels, back up cams, etc..) are controlled in the first 2 lines of the 727 section that I highlighted in red in previous posts.

Then get a technician to enter the new data manually using the following instructions:
IDS main menu > Special Tools > enter '53061'
- This allows the tech to only input as-built data to any module in the car
Programmable Module Installation > select 'ACM'
- Will prompt tech to add as-built data to the ACM
Add the As-Built data you want to flash to your car.

PHP Code:
http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=xxxxxxxxxx
replace x's with your VIN #.

After speaking to another user, wystewart, who experimented a little, it looks like its actually the last 4 digits of the first line that controls the camera. Specifically changing it from 80xx to 90xx. As the 3rd & 4th digits vary by other packages.

I BELIEVE you need the first line to look like one of the following lines:

ACM 727-01-01 2140 8C29 90D6

* - specifically make yours have the 90 part!

As long as you're just programming the ACM, I believe the worst thing that could happen is that the system displays something that you don't have, like a prompt to enable/disable the reverse sensors, or shows controls for heated seats, etc. But if you just change the 80 to 90, you should be ok.

I've also seen 9017, & 9096 on cars with back up cameras.

I'd also like to add, that you should only put 2140 if your car had that, some are 2100. The 40 might the rear sub, not sure. Same for the 8C29.

I'd also like to add, that I am suspecting that Canadian cars have a slightly different configuration than US car. My car is
ACM 727-01-01 2500 8C29 xxxx
while a US car with the same options seems to be
ACM 727-01-01 2100 8C29 xxxx

One other Canadian VIN I found was also ACM 727-01-01 2500

Not positive that CDN <-> US is the reason for the difference. No idea why the difference, perhaps some day I'll be brave enough to experiment...

The second line 727-01-02 also seems to be slightly different.
