Shaker 500 questions

I'm looking to improve the Shaker 500 system I have. Everyone always says change HU change speakers etc etc. I don't want to change HU because my wife bought me a new CD mechanism for the HU for Christmas. So replacing the HU isn't an option.
Here is my question has anyone changed just the speakers and kept the Shaker HU how did that sound. Second question is has anyone just replaced the amp but kept the factory HU and speakers.

I replaced only the speakers and the sound is much better. I bought the Pioneer speakers that so many others rave about. The rear speakers don't have the same volume as before, but the sound is so much better. Just do it.

I changed out my speakers for some Pioneers (cost about 60 per pair) and the sound is night and day compared to the stock speakers. I should've done this upgrade the day i purchased my mustang.

I think they were the Pioneer TS-D6802R. I bought four and swapped them all out on Christmas day!
