Shaker 1000 Door subwoofer replacement

I've been looking for subs to replace the ones in my door. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to spend more than $60 per subwoofer if I don't have to, but I would like to have decent sound. I know that you at what you pay for when It comes to sound equipment. Also, is there a reason for the plastic piece on the back of the stock subwoofer? Will it affect the sound if I have to cut it to fit a new speaker? Sorry about all of the questions, I don't have much knowledge when it comes to stereos.

These are plug and play, but about $30 over your limit perhaps. There aren't too many options that will fit.

Ok, thanks I'll most likely pick those up. If I don't get those is it a bad idea to cut the plastic behind the speaker? Does it serve a purpose?

These fit perfectly (once you remove the shell from the back of the speaker):

The plastic behind the speaker forms the air box; if you cut it you will be using the entire door panel as an air box and it'll probably sound terrible. I don't recommend it.

The only ones that fit are the Shelby Kickers. Others will but will require modifications. Are you going to amp them? If not don't do it, it's not worth it. On the other side if you do amp them don't use any more than about 150 watts per sub. You'll also have to deaden the door because it will rattle like crazy...trust me on this I'm dealing with this right now.

These look extremely interesting because they appear to be dual voice coil, just like the OEMs. One of the problems with the Kickers is that you loose some volume because they are only single voice coil designs, leaving the leads for the other VC unused when they are fitted.

What other set of leads? They are SVC so they are only a positive and negative, thats it. I also agree with the volume thing. I cant stress enough, if you dont plan to amp these dont buy them!! You will be disappointed...

The OEM Door subs on my 2013 are Dual Voice Coil and as such have two sets of leads and four terminals per speaker. The Pioneers also have four terminals and the specs indicate they are DVC with 2 ohms impedance each. This will accommodate both leads from the OEM amp. The Shelby Kicker upgrades are indeed SVC, so you cannot connect the other set of leads when using them.

Maybe other year model Mustange have SVC door subs?

These Pioneers are DVC. Since I've done everything aftermarket, I had no wiring at all, and ran just a single line and bridged it to both terminal pairs (which makes the impedance 1 ohm to the amp). I have a 600w amp driving both speakers (300w each) and it definitely rattles the doors at high volume. Fortunately, I'm only in it for bass response and I don't blast my radio like a 16 year old in a high school parking lot anymore, so at normal listening levels there's really no rattle and they pump out a good level of 80 Hz base.

Oh I'm sorry I misunderstood. You mean there are extra wires? Right? If so I didn't use the stock wiring anyway so I took it out.

Is the amp powering he door subs a single channel or two channel amp? I have a single channel kicker amp going unused that I'm thinking about adding to the Shelby kickers that I've ordered.
