Is upgrading my stock speakers a waste?

So I've got a $100 Best Buy gift card to use, and I was debating on buying new 6x8s for my front door speakers. I own a 2012 Mustang V6 with all stock audio components.

Honestly, I don't think the stocks sound too terrible. I'm not really an audiophile, though I've owned cars with amps, aftermarket speakers, subs, etc.

If I buy a set of Pioneer or Alpine 6x8s to replace the stocks, will I notice a difference without an amp? I just want a little more power, but nothing extraordinary. I'm trying to stay within the $100 budget here and can do the install myself.

I highly recommend it. I tell a story about a time when I was doing my system and I installed one, yes one upgraded speaker. All the rest of the speakers were out of the car. Factory head unit still installed. I left it that way a few days as I ran out of time while wiring a complete system. That one upgraded speaker running off the stock headunit was better than the entire stock system combined. Now it was a 5.25 component speaker but still. Moral of the story is the stock base model speakers are cheap crap. Replace them and you will be amazed.

Yes they are 6x8's but you can replace with a 5x7 or 5.25

Is there a difference between buying a 6x8 or another size that fits? I just want the easiest install and fit possible.

Everyone here seems to fight me with this but... I would only do it if you have the base system. If you have the Shaker system I'd say no. Just get some nice 5x7 or 6x8's.

for my base model I found the OEM speakers sounded like Kazoos. Replacing them was huge for me, but if you think it doesn't sound bad I wouldn't. I'm surprised you are ok with them but if you like them.

for others...5x7 and 6x8 are pretty much the same size. I went with entry level Focals and it was a huge difference. Bass is still weak but I'm real happy I spent an afternoon and $200 to replace all 4 of mine.

No, I find that some speakers just cannot be found in certain sizes. Component speakers are the best in my opinion. So that's why I went that route. They came with an adapter to fit in the hole where the stock speakers were. It was painless.

I upgraded the front OEM speakers on my 08 and it made a pretty big difference. The Pioneer model TS-D6892R speakers are likely more than $100 but well worth it. Here is the contrast between OEM top picture and Pioneer bottom:

5x7 and I dont think it will sound any better unless you add an amp and a sub. Im not talking BOOM BOOM blow your windows out. Im talking JL 5/700 V2 and 2-8's or 1-10/12. I have 1-12 and 5x7 infinity kappa all the way around. Its loud, but its inside bass loud.

I just upgraded my front two door speakers to some Kicker 6x8s. They made a huge difference over the stock ones. The bass is better and the highs and mids are greatly improved. They also go a lot louder.

The sound still gets muddy at really high volumes, but it's way better than stock.

New speakers make a HUGE difference from the base model ones. A $100 Best Buy gift card is perfect for some decent speakers and you will notice the difference right away, audiophile or not.

Are 5x7 or 6x8 speakers from Walmart worth buying for front speakers on a 14 Base GT or do I really need to order from an audio place?
I havnt looked yet but would name brand stuff from a Walmart be alright if the quality is ok? I don't have access to a better store than that where I live and also don't want to spend a whole lot but I would think they carry some stuff somewhat better than the factory speakers or no?

I like Crutchfield...Great Service at decent (not the best) prices. Google "Crutchfield coupon code" $200 and an afternoon to do all 4 = time/money well spent

idk but I'd bet a beverage WalMart $29 spkrs would be an improvement

Liked the fronts so much I took the opportunity to install a pair on the parcel shelf as well when I was doing the Boss 302 X-Brace install.

If any of you live in Michigan we can meet up so you can hear the diffrence. I upgraded to 5x7 tossed them on an amp and built a custom 12 ported box for the rear. I relocated the rear speakers out of the rear deck because to much sound is lost with them in there. Everything looks like it was put in at factory inside the car. The trunk is wrapped in leather. Hi everybody,

I would like to upgrade my front speakers (I have the Shaker 500 system) and I don't know which speakers to get. Want to spend only about $ 50. Anybody can give me advice? Thank you! I have an Amazon $ 50 gift certificate which I would like to use.

Don't mind rap. As knowledgeable as he is on the motors I don't think he would know a good stereo system if it bite his ears off. Or he just doesn't care for music. Who knows and who cares lol.

Thank you for your input. I know, those factory ones are ridiculous. Am not an audiophile and have already spent way too much money on my V6 for mods. I just want a good bang-for-you-buck upgrade to make the mids and highs sound somewhat better.

Hah, I know, Rap is a great guy and all about performance. It is only a V6 that most likely never is going to see a track. I am ok with some extra pounds

Go with a pair of kicker I believe cx model. There black and yellow. Quick instal and they sound good. Very good speakers. I run them all the time in customers cars who want some good cheap speakers. I've added amps to them and they will play as clean as the amp will.
