Running Raxiom GPS off factory satellite antenna

So, I believe I have sourced the parts needed to split the factory satellite radio antenna and provide a feed to both the radio and to the Raxiom GPS. This would save you from having to mount yet another thing and run yet another wire to get your GPS up and running. The Raxiom manual says that you can split the factory wire, but they provide no information on how to do it.

Well the source I found it's cheaper to buy 50 than it is to buy 5 due to bulk pricing. That is for the splitter. There would also be an adapter required to get the right GPS connection, but I have also located that part.

It would come with the connections sealed with heat shrink tube and would basically require you to unplug your current setup and put this splitter behind the radio. I can buy the cables separately, but the splitter is in bulk and I thought I would check here before I wind up with yet another drawer full of parts.

My question is: how many of you would be interested in something like this at a price point of $20 shipped?

Well, ordered the parts this morning. But it looks like people are happy to run another wire and mount an antenna.

So, for anyone interested, got the parts yesterday but couldn't install until this morning. I'm usually very cynical about plug and play stuff working, but I'm happy to report that this worked perfectly. I unplugged my Sirius connection from the stock radio, placed the splitter in line, connected the GPS adapter, and plugged it all back in. It works! The satellite radio connection has no degredation or problems as I scanned thru the channels. The GPS works better than before. The one thing I noticed is that I no longer get the satellite icon with the option to check for how many satellites are connected.

Yes but do you have the connections for factory satellite radio on the back of the radio unit? It taps into the factory satellite antenna. I imagine the factory sat/nav display that uses the factory antenna is able to pick up both sets of satellites, so this just splits that signal.

got one and it works awesome. this is the only reason I purchased the raxiom gps unit. I did not want the extra antenna and this solved it.

Glad you like it. Working with a supplier to see if I can get the GPS cable in a longer length. Currently the only feedback I've received is that it can be tricky to get it to fit as you have to reassemble in the right order to have enough slack to reach the GPS plug on the Raxiom.

Have one left ready to ship before I place another order of cables.

I have Sirius so I am assuming I have a satellite antenna. I want to put in the Raxiom Navigation system as my car didn't come with the Navigation Package. Are you telling me there will be another antenna to add just for the Raxium? I hadn't heard that was necessary. I won't be doing it until next year as my GT/CS is a Vert and in winter storage but plan on doing some cross country travel next summer and would like to have the Raxium Nav. System. I am confused.

it sounds to me like au01st is using the factory sat antenna (lump on trunk). that seems to be his point. He's been here a while and I trust him. Just make sure in a PM that I'm reading it correctly.

Running Raxiom GPS off factory satellite antenna

Mud, you are correct. In factory nav equipped cars there is a single antenna for the GPS and satellite radio. After some research I discovered that the antenna receives signals from multiple satellites for each system. Every car that is equipped with satellite radio also has the capability for GPS because of the way Ford separates the signal at the radio (older models may have this splitter unit in the trunk so I can't vouch for 05-09 satellite radio equipped vehicles).

The Raxiom manual states that it is possible to tap into the factory antenna but they provide no instruction nor parts that make this possible.

If you have a satellite radio equipped vehicle but don't use it, you can still use the factory antenna for GPS with the right adapter. If you don't have an adapter or splitter then you will have to run a second antenna (I originally kept mine run to the glovebox and just put it on the dash when I needed it). In my opinion this part should have come with the Raxiom kit, but talks with AM to carry it have gone nowhere. Seems they are happy to deliver a 95% complete product.

And yes, I've been here a while, not going anywhere, and have delivered probably 20-25 of these units with every one making the Raxiom owner happy to have a product like it should have come.

I won't be buying it till next year - I will pm you when the time comes and if you have that splitter - I would be happy to buy it. I don't want to have to mount something to the windshield or the dash. I am glad to find out about this before we actually went and bought it. We have relatives that run a shop The RingBrothers actually. When I put on my Corsa's and valance they did it. And I am sure they would install the Raxium for the family discount too. LOL. Hard to believe they are so famous. They are finishing up a car for Jay Leno an early Mustang Fastback I think. It was all in pieces but my husband took a picture of the picture of the finished product. Talented guys - grew up next door to my husband. They are first cousins. I love they have touched my car! I have a hat with their autographs on it that I like to wear when I drive with the top down! Black and Red Hat to boot. Oh well that will be 5 months off.

I have one more of these ready to go out.

I had to switch suppliers in China. Lead time is now 21 days instead of 10 days. But the cost stayed the same.

I'll also be moving this month so I don't want to make another order until I have my new address.

I was going to get the Raxiom but spent a bit more money and got Pioneer 8100 NEX with Scosche Install Kit and a Back-up camera. I'm loving mine. I bought one of the au01st's set-ups and my installer used it. Works great. Much much nicer stereo than the stock too!

Alright, I know it took a while. Between moving and switching suppliers I had a few hiccups, but I have more of these ready to ship out. I have sent PMs to those who expressed interest or sent me a PM.

Contact me if interested. Feel free to post if you have one and like it. IMO, this is something that should have come with the radio...

I recently installed a Pioneer AVH-4800BS in my 2007 GT, along with the sirius module. The shaker unit I took out had the sirius option in it. I want to use the stock sirius antenna on my trunk rather than run another antenna somewhere on the car. If this splitter would work for me, I'll take one.
