Shaker500 Speaker Replacement

Hi Everyone,

I've got a 2014 v6 premium convertible. At first, I thought the shaker 500 was decent as the music sounded fine. It's now been a year (~6k miles) and recently noticed the sound quality has really depreciated. I hear a sort of humming/buzzing from what I think are the speakers and the sound quality is not as clear as it used to be. I usually keep the sound level around 1/3 or just a few clicks as I like to hear my exhaust in the back, so I'm very surprised the speakers gave out so quickly. I'm not a huge audiophile, just want decent sound without that buzzing. Would replacing the 4 door speakers (not the door 'woofers - those are still ok, unless you guys think they're going to crap out as well) be recommended or should I take the car back since it's still under warranty? Or is my sound quality going to suffer no matter what since it's a convertible? If the stock Shaker500 speakers are generally crappy and this is just going to happen again in a year, I'd rather just spend a few bucks and upgrade. I listen to mostly rock & alt. I've seen posts where some people recommend some 6x8 infinity kappas, pioneer, or jvc as good brands that won't break budget and other posts that disagree. Any recommendations you can make under $200? I'd install it myself so would like to avoid anything complicated where I need to re-run wiring...hoping just changing the speakers will be enough. Thanks in advance!

I went with the Shelby GT/Kicker Speaker set up front. Which puts Kicker Long throw 6X8 and Kicker 8" Sub in the Front Doors. I did JL Audio 6X8/5X7 in the Rear and JL Audio 10" Sub in the Trunk. The Sound is Excellent over the Stock set up.

I did similar to Kato, but added the Shelby Kicker rear speakers and the Kicker rear sub that tucks into the right corner of the trunk. I also added the Shelby-Kicker amp that fits under the glove box out of sight. It was all plug and play, super easy installation. One note, if you replace the 6x9 door speakers you will need to buy the 2012 or earlier adapter rings as the 2013+ OEM speakers have integral adapters.

Thanks for the replies! Replacing all 4 speakers with the shelby kickers will be just under 200, which is perfect. Will make sure to get the proper adapters as well.

If you buy the kit from Shelby Performance Parts they come with good instructions.

Will the Kickers make a big difference even over Alpines?

The kickers are not the best out there, but people like them because they are a direct fit and easy. The Alpines might even sound better than the kickers tbh.
