custom dash panel

I'm in the middle of making my own custom dash panel, one that places the head unit on top where it belongs. I started with an ADS MUS1 dash kit (I'm moving away from the Kenwood, so I will not need the climate control button row) and a Scosche dash kit for the climate control panel and electronics. I wanted to retain the pocket and the dual usb ports the MUS1 dash kit offers, so I cut the screen opening out, moved it to the top, then put the Scosche climate control panel below that. I used JB Weld plastic putty for the screen opening, and regular JB Weld for the climate control panel as I felt it needed some strength since the buttons will see some force. I filled in the seams with regular old 3M Bondo body filler, sanded like mad, them filled any pin holes or minor imperfections with 3M Bondo glazing putty, sanded some more, layed on a light coat of filler putty to find imperfections. I'm pretty happy where the panel is at this point. I plan on hitting it with atleast two more coat of primer, a touch more sanding then paint. does anyone know what color Ford uses on these interior parts? I need to thank RobDis from themustangsource.com for the inspiration for this project. any questions, thoughts or input is welcomed. here's a few pics:

here's a couple pics to show how much higher the screen will be than it is presently

I'm pointing to the top of the screen here

Nice job so far man. I started doing a custom one at one point myself but I never seemed to have the time (around the holidays last year) so I just went with a kit. I am anxious to see how it turns out for you.

I like that a lot man. Looks like maybe you can still see where the cut was made though? What happened there?

you can, it happens sometimes with body filler, I'm going to address it when I put the actual paint I'm using on it and clear coat it

You can basically see the outline of the cut around the top. I wasn't trying to be a dick or anything.

yeah man, love the quality of the Scosche kit but could not bring myself to mount the headunit that low, I do however miss the outside temperature reading the information screen provided

I might have to copy you on this. I think I might keep my temp/compass and maybe mount it in the middle. So many possibilities.

do it man! I tossed over keeping the information screen and moving it down, but the pocket with the dual usb ports won out for me

How did you mount the radio? Same brackets only moved it up?

I used the brackets that came with the Scosche kit, but they needed to be modified to fit up top, there was some trial and error in placing new holes to mount the unit, the old information screen mounting area is wider than the other mounting location so you have to take that into account, but I simply moved the head unit side to side so it was even, there is plenty of play to do so. if you decide to move forward, it will be straight forward because you're using all the pieces from the same kit, you're just moving them around. as long as all your cuts are pretty straight, it will go smoothly. let me know if you have any questions

Will do. It will be a month or so before I can do this because all my tools are in limbo as I'm moving.

This is a Scosche dash kit for the climate control panel. Would prefer the head unit up higher but I like the screen on top still giving direction and temperature. This is a 2015 Pioneer 8100 Nex unit. I really like it

Took the picture after I had turned off the car so that is why climate controls aren't showing. And the temp outside.

not sure if anyone is interested, but I traded my car in last Thursday, Im selling this dash panel and the ADS Maestro RR if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. I never updated this thread, but I have since sprayed the panel with Sem 39033 which is nearly a perfect match, it looks awesome now!
