Hello from AZ
Hello, this is Lisa from AZ. I found this site when looking for info on replacing my 7.5 with an 8.8. Glad I found this site.
I've had various Mustangs over the years. My first was a 66, 3-speed, 289, I got from a junk yard. The windshield wipers would turn on when I hit the horn but it ran great and was a lot of fun.
Also a drag racing fanatic. Built a 65 into a drag car. Had a shop build the frame and roll cage, then did everything else myself, engine, trans, bodywork, paint... My ex had told me mechanics was too complicated for a woman to learn so had to prove him wrong. Been doing all the work on my vehicles ever since. Had to stop racing for a while to do the single mom thing, but just the kid finished school and is working full time so now I want to get back to it.
Some how between my son and I we've collected 7 Mustangs. Unfortunately at this exact moment none are running. The 2 newest ones will be running in the next couple weeks since they are our daily drivers the others are our weekend projects.
Here's the herd:
2007 V6, 5-spd, cold air intake, dual exhaust, short shifter, just blew the 7.5 for the 2nd time. The V6 just puts out too much power for the rearend. Should have an 8.8 in it by next weekend. Can't wait to see what it will do at the track with a posi. Runs high 14's but won't hook with the single track rear. Not bad for a pretty much stock V6.
65 Coupe Dragcar, full frame, 10pt cage, 1 piece fiberglass front end, 3000 Stahl C4, 351C 11:1, closed chamber heads. Ran mid 11's. Been sitting a while, plan to port and polish the heads. Maybe change the cam to a little longer duration. Hopefully have it running before the end of the year.
66 Coupe 289, pony interior, restoration project. Came from Utah so has lots of rust to keep me busy
66 Coupe 6 cyl, wrecked in the rear, just picked it up for parts.
2003 V6, auto. The trans just went out so he decided to make some changes. Beefing up the trans a little and dropping in a 4.3L stroker. He has visions of twin turbos when he has some more $$s. After my experience with the 07, looking for an 8.8 to drop in the 7.5 probably won't last past the engine breakin.
65 Coupe, restomod, 302 auto, picked it up as a street/strip/show project. Completely in pieces so will be a while.
65 Dragcar. He had to find something like mom's. Was back halved, fiberglass front end, doors and trunklid and rollcage when he bought it. Just needs to be finished. It's on the list of projects.
We have lots of projects and I've learned how to work on these things by asking questions and trial and error. Also several how to books. This site looks like a great place to find info, ask questions and just enjoy mustangs.
