Hello from Costa Rica. New User

Hello to all.

My name is Marco, I hope to be the proud owner of a Mustang GT 2008 - 2009 in the near future (1 to 2 months tops), and I´m very exited to start a new phase in my life by involving myself in this world.

A little about myself. I have allways been a 4x4 guy. I own a 2002 fully modifyed Land Rover Defender 110 SW TD5, for those not familiar with it its the long station wagon. After 7 years I decided it was time for a change. No more slow bumpy driving, I want speed and comfort so here I am.

As I said before, Im going to purchase a GT, I really know very little about this cars, I have the idea that a GT is a 4.6 V8, if thats not necesarily true then to be more precise what Im after is a 2008-2009 4.6L V8 Mustang GT.

I need all the help I can get and I´m very interested in learning everything I can about this cars.

Quick note, I´m from Costa Rica, my first language is spanish so please understand if I have some/many grammatical errors. Thanks

Re: Hello from Costa Rica. New User

Welcome to the site Don't worry about the grammer error Trust me on that one 2008-2009 GT is a 4.6 the Mustang GT's 4.6 L V8 has been revised to specifications similar to that of the 2008-2009 Mustang Bullitt's 4.6 L V8, resulting in 315 hp (235 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 325 lb·ft (441 N·m) of torque @ 4250 rpm

Re: Hello from Costa Rica. New User

Welcome. Your post is more readable to me than many only speaking English people so no worries there.

The Mustang GT in 2005-2009 all have the 4.6L 3 valves per cylinder V8 with 300hp. I would make sure it was a 2008 or newer unless it has had the spark plugs changed to the ones that wont break in half (an issue on 2005-2007 GT's). They have a pretty good ride to them stock since the chassis has a better design overall (S197 platform) vs the 94-04 design (S195 platform). They may need help in the power department though, but this is pretty easy and not to expensive to do.

You should be able to boost horse power and torque from 260 at the rear wheels (if manual of course auto is less) to 300-320. Much past that you will need much more than just regular add ons.

Post any and all questions you have so you feel fully researched in the vehicle and can make a good decision about which one you want.

Re: Hello from Costa Rica. New User

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I am interested in boosting up the power of the GT. I read it has 300HP stock. But I wanted to know what can I modify or adapt so I can gain more HP?
What are the cheap and easy alternatives and which are the more expensive ones? How much gain exactly are we talking about with these modifications and do the come with a price? for example some damage for the engine in the long run?

I know from experience that most modifications have long run costs, others are expensive because when you modify one thing sometimes you must modify 7 others to fit the original modification. With my Land Rover I suffered all of these problems until I decided to fully modify the caras it should have been done since the beginning.

I really want to modify it to gain more HP, the amount of the gain Im after will depend on the extent of the modifications and the price.

One thing I don´t want to do again is to modify something that will force me, because of bad performance in other areas, to modify something else to solve issues from the first modification. I don´t know if Im talking too much nonsense? I hope after this essay I made my question understandable.

Re: Hello from Costa Rica. New User

on the 05-09 GTs most do exhaust (5 or less hp not worth much of anything) and a cold air intake with a tune (with the tune for premium fuel) they usually pick up 20rwhp or so~ from that.

An underdrive pulley will give you about 8 more rwhp~ then... well there isnt much else really... so you are looking at about 30 over stock~ so around 300rwhp~

you could get an 03/04 cobra and have 425 hp stock and 2000 dollars away from MUCH MUCH more as they are supercharged from the factory so its an easy change of a pulley to obtain much more power. Stock is 360rwhp~ and its very easy to get to 450-500rwhp
