With all that power, how long will the engine last?

Well it's two years old now it's been making over 400rwhp for over a year
and my mechanic pulled the rod bearings and mains to take a peek-a- boo at them and he said they were perfect. It all depends on the quality of the parts you put in them ,thats what makes them durable .

You are 100% right but another big factor is the tune, and that has no doubt
added to the longevity of your combo. I did a hot single port 3.8 build for a
guy in LA several years ago, he exceeded 300 RWHP for 3 years, finally tore it
down and went with a .030" over 4.2 setup and the old stock shortblock looked
fabulous! But he drove it sensibly on the street, (3 years) and only put
the hurt on it at the track. People with much less in HP have torn up stock
shortblocks in less time, probably due to tuning and abuse factors.

If the kiddoes would do everything the more experienced guys do:
  • Use good parts and assembly
  • Drive with restraint on the street
  • and get a good tune before it is driven...

They would have far fewer failures and have more money for the goood stuff!
Sorry to turn your post into an object lesson, but your statements were a
great starting point for this. Right now I'm trying to help a guy who did
just what #3 says not too... he drove it before his chip came in.

The guys that have troubles break one or more of these "rules" and
are usually younger, hence the "kiddoes" comment. Not trying to
embarass anyone either, but if we learn from our mistakes as a
group, we are all better off for the experience. Isn't that why
we all get together in the first place?

[/soapbox]

Thanks for the space

Thats always been my view ,good parts and good tune ,of coarse it still
not a guarantee but it goes a long way towards longeivity. Mine may blow apart on the next dyno run but it will be because I'm pushing the envelope
not because I'm trying to make big HP on a stock rotating assembly .
The tuning has come along way in the last two years and is definately letting people get bigger numbers but if you have a stock rotating assembly
you are still limited as to what you can get away with ,some have been luckier that others .

I just wonder how long Justin's TT setup (making over 400 RWHP)
will last, that is a completely stock longblock, cam and all,
I hope it lasts forever, but it won't. He knows what he is
doing and will probably reduce boost as it just seems to
be a test mule for turbo and tuning R&D. No reason
to kill your best mule
