Decisions...decisions

I'm new to the Mustang world, have been a mopar guy for years but with the recent changes in their ownership have decided to jump ship.

I'm very interested in buying a 2010 GT500 or a Roush 427r, can you guys give me any advice on why I would take one over the other? Is it just a preference or can you get a better bang for the buck buying the factory car versus an aftermarket remake?

Re: Decisions...decisions

welcome :thumbs2:

I was brought up to be a mopar guy as well, but not being able to afford a decent one in high school brought me to mustang.

Both are mean cars. The GT500 has more hp's and torque (540 and 510). The Roush is rated at 435 and 400. Many see the Roush's being overpriced and underpowered for what you get. I guess it's up to you. I'd do some research, they're always changing/uprgading those two particular cars. For example, the 427's intercooler is twice as big and more efficient as the 08/09.

I personally would take the GT500. I've always liked them. But then you could always buy an 03/04 termi cobra and spend half as much on the car itself, and spend the other half to make it outperform the other two.

Re: Decisions...decisions

Well for me it would be the GT500 cause you then have a car that you can build on. You get a forged motor and a 6 speed trans to start. Other parts like the clutch are beefed up on the GT500 but are left stock on the roush. It's really up to you as to what you want to do. As said before. I would spend 25k on an 03/04 cobra and then put 10-15k into it and outperform both. Just my .02 cents.

Re: Decisions...decisions

I understand and appreciate what your saying, my problem is I'm 52, run my own company and do not have a lot of time on my hands to scout out a used car and install the mods. You did back up what I felt after doing a little research. This car will be not be an every day drive but will see a lot of use. From ever thing I read sounds like the GT is the way to go.

Re: Decisions...decisions

Yah hottcobra hit a big point. The Shelby's got forged internals. That's huge for a car running that much power. You have a nice base if you ever did decide to "upgrade" to gain some more ponies.

Given your situation, I'd say the GT500 is the winner. Do keep us updated on your decision.

Re: Decisions...decisions

Will do, I like what I see so far with the forum. Looks like this is a good group of peope.

I have the utmost respect for Ford not taking any bail out money. I plan to do all I can to support them and I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy every moment of it.

Re: Decisions...decisions

Well put, I certainly hope more people consider that when looking for a vehicle.

...And I'm sure you'll absolutely love any mustang you end up with

Re: Decisions...decisions

the gt500 is a no brainer winner... why you ask? It actually has potential above what it is from the factory without a TON invested. The roush is just a GT pushed pretty hard. It has some room to grow... but not much (450-500rwhp is the limit)

With the gt500 you will save some cash and have a car wtih 540 stock hp that is VERY easily pushed from 450rwhp~ to 500, 600, 700, hmm 800.... yea much more potential lol.

You are a tune, intake, exhasut away from going from 450rwhp to 500+... the roush is 427hp AT THE ENGINE ha pretty sad honestly for the money.
